$100 Checking Account Bonus at Bank of America - Update 2

Dec 14, 2009 - 6:21 PM by Ken Tumin

Bank of America
Update 12/14/09: Offer Code has been updated to AOU261209, and the offer has been extended to 2/28/2010.

Bank of America has long offered a USPS movers checking account bonus. There's a new one, and the bonus is now $100 (up from $75). It does require a little work. Here's the link to the promotional page. The promo code is AOU260909. The new expiration date is 11/30/09. It's available through the online application or in any BofA branch. Here are the basic requirements as listed in the promo page:
  • This offer is available only to new customers who open a qualifying personal checking account with a minimum balance of $500
  • The new checking account must be open for at least 30 days
  • You must make a minimum of one transaction with the newly assigned check card
Some of the important small print includes:
  • They'll deposit the $100 incentive directly into your new checking account within 90 days of its opening
  • The new customer is not eligible for this offer if they were a signer on a Bank of America checking account that was closed within the last three months.
  • Offer does not apply to current checking customers or student checking accounts
  • Bank of America will report the value of the offer to the IRS
According to the promo page, the MyAccess Checking has no monthly maintenance fees when opened online.

Hard Pull? Customer Service? Fees?

I discussed all of these issues in this June post when this promo was only a $75 bonus.

I am majorly bummed becuase I received a letter from B of A letting me know that I would not be receiving the $100 bonus since I hadn't done an DEBIT CARD TRANSACTION within the first 30 days of opening the account.  When I singed up for the account, it mentioned a "transaction" and I thought using the ATM with the check card would qualify.  I had no idea it had to be a purchase transaction.  I have made my case to customer service, and still have not received the bonus.

I signed up in Oct.  Its been longer than 90 days and I have fufilled all the requirements, the 100$ bonus should have been added to my account by now, but it has not.  When I called them they said they would do an investigation and get back to me in 72 hours, its been a week since then and nothing . . .
