Checking and 10-Month CD Promo at NuVision FCU in SoCal - Local Only

POSTED ON BY

NuVision Credit Union

NuVision Federal Credit Union is listing a special 10% APY 10-month CD. As you might expect, there's a low maximum deposit ($1,000). Also, it's limited to one per household. Minimum is also $1,000. It's a grand opening special which is only available at certain branches (Downtown Los Angeles, East Los Angeles, La Verne, Monterey Park and Rosemead locations). You must print out and present the coupon at the branch. Offer expires 6/25/2010. Here's the link to the promotion.

The $1K max hurts this 10% 10-month CD, but it's an easy $70 over what you would get on $1K for 10 months in a 1.50% savings account.

$150 Checking Account Promotion

NuVision FCU has again extended the $150 checking account promotion. The offer is now scheduled to last until 6/30/2010. To receive the full $150 requires the following:

  • $50 bonus for opening the free checking account with a minimum deposit of $100. Also required is either direct deposit of $200/month OR 5 signature debit card purchases per month for the first 90 days.
  • $50 bonus for keeping the checking account active for 90 days (at least 3 transactions per month)
  • $50 bonus for using online bill pay (at least 3 in first 90 days)

Please refer to the promotion page (pdf) for the full details. According to the small print in the promo page, you must visit a branch to redeem rewards. You may have to visit the branch at least twice. A reader mentioned the following in a previous post:

You need to come in TWICE to get the bonus. First to open the account and sign a paper for the promotion. Then, after 3 months, you have to go in again and see a banker so they can review your account and give you the remaining $100. They won't do it over the phone.

The credit union still offers a refer-a-friend program which rewards a member $50 for each referral.

NuVision FCU Membership

Field of membership includes members of the American Consumer Council. Anyone can join this organization with a $6 membership fee. In the online credit union application, it allows you to select this council for eligibility, and it states: "If you are interested in joining the Council and the credit union, click this option and continue applying for membership." See the site for other ways to be eligible to join the credit union without joining this council. You can be eligible via select employer groups and via immediate family.

Branch Locations

Branches are located in the California cities of Huntington Beach, Laguna Hills, Lakewood and Seal Beach. There's also a branch in Mesa, Arizona, but it's only accessible to Boeing employees.

The credit union is federally insured by the NCUA (Charter # 566).

NuVision FCU News

It was recently announced that NuVision FCU and Kinecta FCU will be merging. Here's an excerpt from The Orange County Register

NuVision Federal Credit Union in Huntington Beach would merge with Kinecta Federal Credit Union in Manhattan Beach. If the merger is completed, the combined credit union would have assets of $4.7 billion and 40 branches through Orange and Los Angeles counties. The resulting credit union would be named Kinecta and NuVision CEO Roger Ballard would head the combined company.

Like Ken mentioned, the checking bonus needs to be verified in branch at the SAME branch you open'd the account. It was nice going to the Monterey Park Branch, everything went over smoothly and they actually gave the debit card right away. Lastly, while I didn't qualify for membership except for the consumer's council, I didn't have to pay any membership since I went in branch. YMMV

For the 10% promo it states "One per household". So I assume household means mailing address and name. Family members should be able to obtain this offer if they use a different mailing/residence address...ie work address.

EZ to setup....though they push their other products when you do sign-up. Gas Co building requires a drivers license to obtain a temp pass to the 17 floor (so they can make sure your not on a black list (ex-employee recently laid off)).
