Competitive 7-Year CD Rate at Financial Center FCU in Indiana

Financial Center Federal Credit Union is offering a very competitive rate on its 7-year certificate. It has a 2.50% APY with a minimum deposit of $500. There is one downside. The CD has a harsh early withdrawal penalty of 730 days dividends. This rate, minimum deposit and early withdrawal penalty are listed in the credit union’s rates page as of 4/22/2014. It’s nice to see the early withdrawal penalty clearly disclosed in the rates page. That isn’t common for banks and credit unions.

The credit union’s field of membership expanded in 2011 to include those who live, work, worship, or attend school in the greater Indianapolis area. The field of membership now includes all who live, work, worship, attend school, or volunteer in Boone, Brown, Hamilton, Hancock, Hendricks, Johnson, Marion, Morgan, Putnam, and Shelby Counties in Indiana. Financial Center branches are located in Indianapolis and Greenwood, Indiana.

Financial Center was established in 1953 to serve the military personnel and civilians assigned to Fort Benjamin Harrison on the east side of Indianapolis. In 2013, Financial Center merged with Horizon One Federal Credit Union. The credit union now has over 57,000 members and over $496 million in assets.

The best nationally available 7-year CD rate is 2.73% APY at Franklin Federal Savings Bank. You can get a brokered 7-year CDs with rates close to this. The best one currently listed at Fidelity has a 2.65% rate. This is a non-callable brokered CD that’s issued by Goldman Sach Bank. Navy Federal continues to offer a 2.80% APY for a Jumbo 7-year CD, but Navy Federal has membership limitations. These rates are accurate as of 4/22/2014.
