I'm not sure what the other reviewers are referring to, but I've had nothing but great experiences with American Trust. I've had my account open there for probably 2.5 - 3 years now and never once have I had my debit card "shut down" OR not qualified for the high rate of interest for having transactions under $23.
So my wife and I showed up at 11:15 on Saturday (Yesterday) to find a teller and a person at the desk. She offered to help us and then when she figured out we needed to open a Reward Account, she said they would call us when someone was a available and we could come back in. This was not by any means what we would define as acceptable service. We took our business to another bank and opened it before noon.
This bank is not up front about having customers make $23 transactions to qualify for the interest. It has also lowered its maximum deposit to $15000 to qualify for the higher interest. They shut down your debit card if you don't make the $23/transactions. Not a very trustworthy bank.
Be aware this bank does not state it on their website, but they require you to make $23 transactions in order to count. If you don't adhere to their rules they will shut down your debit card without notice. This bank is not upfront on their reward checking account rules.
