I have been banking with Capitol Credit Union since 1998, when I went to work for the state government. Although I have accounts at other banks, CCU is my go-to for my daily needs, and I do the lion's share of my business with CCU, having two checking accounts and one savings account. The main thing that I like about CCU is that my accounts are very carefully monitored for potential fraudulent use. I went on an overseas vacation, and after I used my debit card, I quickly got a phone call FROM A HUMAN BEING asking me if I was indeed the one using the debit card. I have had my account compromised a couple of times, and CCU responded rapidly; I had all of my money back in a matter of one business day. Of course, one might argue that this should have never happened, but because it does (and because it is increasingly common to have your information compromised online), I was impressed with the personal attention I received from the employees there. It is located centrally, and has just enough branches to make it convenient but not pervasive. I like knowing that I'm not going business with a "Wall Street" bank that is potentially corrupt. I am not charged a fee to maintain a checking account or a debit/credit card. The online services are easy to use and offer a full range of services, allowing me to pay all of my bills without the need for paper checks. I guess what I appreciate about CCU the most is that I'm treated like a person and a valued customer on the rare occasions I go in to deposit a check, the employees are always friendly and kind. The atmosphere is very laid-back. Wouldn't trade CCU for any other institution.
I have been a very happy and satisfied member of Capitol Credit Union since 1989. I have always received the very best customer service, either over the phone or at the teller window. My loan applications have always been quickly processed, and I find the terms have always been well below what a commercial bank my charge.
You cannot have a banking relationship for this long without there being some problems. Any time either I have made a mistake or CCU made a mistake it has been handled quickly and satisfactorily. I cannot recommend CCU highly enough.
Fees, fees, fees and more fees. This CU pays horribly and their tech went from bad to worst in Austin. The customer service whether in person or on the phone leaves a lot to be desired. Take your money elsewhere.
This credit union used to be a great place to bank. At some point the employee turnover ramped up and the quality of the buildings and services dropped. Facilities are a mess. Employees dress sloppy. Recently the credit union decided to "Simplify" their online experience and in return delivered us back to 1999. The credit union still has not changed their low deposit rates which match a lot of the larger banks. Not sure why anyone would want to bank here that isn't already stuck with a loan.
