Very satisfied so far

First People's has become my new credit union after they bought out the one I was using before. They handled the transfer of accounts very well, with mailers welcoming me as a new customer. I've had some questions about the takeover and every time I call they've been able to answer my questions and any concerns I've had. Their online banking interface works very well and I've been quite happy with the number of branches available to me and their ATM services, which I mainly use after hours. I haven't needed to open a loan or use any other financial instrument but both my checking account and savings accounts transferred from my old credit union with no issues and other people who use First People's have told me that being a member helps when looking at loans.

In-Branch Visit Required To Open Account

Posted by: |

The credit union's website says membership is limited to people who have a connection to certain areas of Maryland, Pennsylvania, or West Virginia; alternately, someone "can join our nonprofit partner association (Planting Roots Foundation) and immediately qualify!" Unfortunately, the website fails to mention that joining the credit union requires an in-person visit to a branch within that small tri-state area.

I spoke on the phone with two customer service representatives. Neither was familiar with the Planting Roots Foundation alternative, but they both knew that joining the credit union required a branch visit.
