Greater Nevada Credit Union (GNCU) rates above average in all categories except when it comes to fees . Everything has a fee and the requirements to waive the fees are way too restrictive to be fair . For example a cashiers check will cost $6 no matter how much money you have on deposit . You have to use your debit card at least 10 times in a billing cycle to avoid the service charges on a checking account , which in themselves are way too high . Our retirement account has an annual fee of $20 , with no way to avoid the fee , and we are being paid one tenth of one percent interest .
When we opened our accounts the teller turned out to really be a saleslady . She continually tried to get us to buy more products and talk to her in house investment adviser , who charges high fees . I had to complain to the manager in order to get her to stop . In the end the manager apologized and entered a "Do not up sell" into our file .
If you are going to use this bank to hold some emergency money and maybe some retirement money it is better than average . For day to day banking I advise you to go shop around .
Bonus interest on a $25000 cap not worth hassle of meeting requirements and dealing with problematic employee training, call center waits, and IT issues.
This Credit Union has too many fees and not enough of an opportunity to avoid them . Marginal customer service and restrictive policies. If you are financially responsible do not bank here. They will fee you to insolvency.
The worst bank ever. The representatives try to help but I think the system, internally is messed up. My online account periodically drops scheduled transfers, doesn't honor my preferences (which has cost me by not giving me my earned interest and overdraft protection). AND, don't even try to do a wire transfer--most painful experience ever. Management even lied about contacting me back.
Id not even bother to give 1 star if I had the choice. I had banked with GNCU years ago before moving to Frontier Financial. I left GNCU for many reasons then, bad service, fees, phone service is incompetent, fees, constant bank error for auto drafts, FEES, member resource center people have no ability to do anything - always have to refer you to someone else that may or may not call you back, did I mention the FEEES (out of control fees)!!!! Frontier Financial was a breath of fresh air, so you can imagine my dismay when I find out GNCU is merging with Frontier. Now having been forced back with GNCU I'm more unhappy then I remember being the first time I left them. The fees are worse, I wired money from my OWN IRA and GNCU charges me $15 to accept it, $3-$6 atm transaction fees, overdraft fees are ridiculous for linked accounts (Yes linked with funds in them, $10 per transfer over 5 in a month), GNCU uses a third party bill pay company that is about as competent as they are. This is by far one of the worst banks I have banked with, Id suggest staying far, far away from this bank. if you have not had issues with them yet just give it time.. I was quite happy with them for a while. Then I needed help, had questions, etc.
A final note, I've had the member resource people be OUTRIGHT rude, raise their voices, talk over me, and even hang up on me.. I'm leaving them once again... GOOD RIDDANCE!!!

They get one star because there is no ZERO star option... When I opened my account(s), I made it EXTREMELY CLEAR that I wouldn't be using my account very much and I would NOT open an account with ANY TYPE of "service charge". I was PROMISED by Melinda in the Reno branch that there would be NO SERVICE CHARGES AT ALL.. On my very first statement, there was a service charge. I made a phone call and was told that it is their policy to NEVER answer calls and that I had to wait "TWO HOURS" for a return call.. Next day,, STILL NO CALL,, I left more messages,, STILL NO RETURN CALL!!! I have left over a dozen messages and STILL NO CALL from the "management team".. This is hands down the WORST CU I have ever heard of.. I guess as long as Mr. Murry (CEO) gets his FAT PAYCHECK,, why bother trying to have happy customers... I had every intention of transferring all of my money into my GNCU accounts.. NOT A CHANCE now.. I will close my accounts as soon as I am near a branch.. I only hope there is something left by the time I get there.. THIS CU SUCKS!!!!!!!!!
I have had now 3 times that GNCU has put a hold on my deposits to create non- sufficient fund charges on my account. It is a way for them to manipulate their policies against you. They have taken my deposits and run them through within 24 to 48 hours normally. However, when they know that they can manipulate their polices they will hold your deposits for 3 - 4 days. In order to discuss any issue in this form they only have you use message system, denying direct contact with a customer representative. I am done dealing with this manipulation. I would recommend not having any money in this Credit Union, as what I see is that they do not care about how they treat their customers. Personally I really feel that I would not give them any star rating for this reason.
