The Best Credit Union

I've been a member for over 20 years and never had an issue. Can use several ATM networks for free withdrawal. No fees like the big banks.

Incompetence

I have had my mortgage through HVCU for almost 4 years and have had a miserable experience. My mortgage was set up incorrectly by HVCU when I closed on my house and is STILL not correct. More than once I have paid additional amounts to try and rectify the situation, which is not easy to do for anyone, and yet today I was informed that my account (which is automatically withdrawn from another account to ensure the funds are there in full and on time) is insufficient to cover the mortgage. How does this happen time and time again?!?!?!?! Because the credit union does not care to take the time to take care of their customers/members.

Incompetent Employees

HVCU bought our local bank branch three months ago and it has been hell. The accounts were not transferred properly and HVCU has failed to fix the problems for over three months. They bounced thousands of dollars worth of checks because they were drawing from the wrong accounts. Even though there was a bank transfer going on and many thousands of dollars were sitting in the other accounts, they decided to bounce them anyway, charging $25 a pop but not bothering with notification. We sorted out that round and they said they fixed it, sent new checks, and then guess what. It happened again! It's just great when the bank won't clear your check to a contractor and the concrete truck is sitting in your driveway demanding cash payment because the bank people are idiots.
I can appreciate that there will be problems, especially with something as complicated as a bank sale. But it should have been fixed the first time. If that doesn't work, perhaps it could have been fixed the second time. The verdict is still out on the third time. What's not helpful is condescending bank employees insisting that they know what they're doing when they clearly don't. Top that off with a refusal to actually acknowledge how badly they bungled or to take responsibility for it. Instead what you repeatedly hear is their scripted line: "I'm sorry but this is the first time I am seeing this problem and I can't speak to what happened in the past." Even though it's relevant! Would've been nice to have a little extra work on their side to make sure the problems were fixed the first time. Nope--too much to ask for I guess. That's how you get a zero-star review.
