Pros:
- CD rates are very competitive, sometimes beating online banks.
- 6-month CD charges a very modest early withdrawal penalty, just 30 days of interest
- Helpful and friendly customer service
- Never had an issue with mailed checks getting lost (unlike another review)
- Very good online banking system for a small credit union
- Shared branching access
Cons:
- A bit difficult to get a membership open if you have a number of Chexsystems inquiries from rate/bonus-chasing.
- Opening a membership is a hard pull on Equifax, but the hard pull can be re-used for loans within 30 days
- There's a fee for originating an outgoing ACH transfer, but you can avoid it if you pull funds using the external institution
Regardless of FICO (820+), CU will do a hard pull. Need to consider this when applying.
Wanted to buy a large-value Roth IRA CD when they had a good rate for about a 2-week period of time.
Applied for online membership, uploaded my ID, they did a credit check (my FICO is 820) and took a $25 fee, No further action for 3 weeks. No issues or concerns raised. Nothing. Meanwhile their CD rates fell by 0.5% and are no longer competitive. Seriously? Why pretend to have a banking business when you make zero effort while making your customers jump through hoops for the privilege of letting you hold their money? Stay far away, these guys are losers.
They lost a Bank check for substantial amount of money I sent to open a CD and for three days they were not returning calls. They said the guy that opened my account is on vacation so they are not sure if he had it. A woman said they have quite a few missing checks.
This is a nightmare.
Another clueless credit union where they provide prospective customers with the wrong information and treating them as idiots.
