Unlike "effkennebunk" - I've had nothing but helpful service - even when someone can't immediately address my problem, they seek someone who can.
I had a deposit go missing (literally the ATM ate it) and the bank made good on my overdrafts.
I've transferred money into the wrong account to cover a check - and they called rather than just bounce checks and charge me $35 a pop, unlike another former institution I banked with.
Yes, Bank of America - I'm looking at you. Money on-deposit, and you couldn't be bothered... other than to rack-up $105 in fees. So if you're in York County Maine, or Rockingham County NH - give Kennbunksavings a try.
I have been a customer since about 2003-2004. My first job was as a teller at this bank. I have told all my friends how amazing this bank is... And then today happened.
I will try to make this as succinct as possible.
10/2016 I went into local branch to get a new card as I had lost my old one. The teller printed off a new card for me and told me she took the liberty of having a chip card mailed to me. I notified the dear that I did NOT want the chip card as it is not accepted in places that I travel frequently.
10/2016 I received a new chip debit card.
10/2016 I call the bank teller at the local branch that I do not want this new card. She lets me know that I do not have to activate said card and can continue using my non-chip card.
10/2016 I travel with friends to Canada, none of their chip cards work, my non-chip card works. All of us had travel advisories on our cards. All of us use KSB.
01/2017 Last night I used my card for gas.
01/2017 I leave for a weekend retreat in the country (picture all woods) and decide to stop off at the local general store to get provisions. I run my card. It has a Hold-Call on it. Odd, I have finances a plenty in my account. I check my mobile account, no fraud alerts, nothing. It is 4:11pm. I call my usual bank (dolls the lot of them). They cannot see a reason why my card would be turned off, so they transfer me to the customer service. There I am informed that they deactivated ALL non-pin cards. I need to find my chip card and the pin that was mailed back in 10/2016. Mind you I am up in the mountains well away from civilization. I inform them of events back in October. They put me on 3 separate holds each lasting about 5 min to speak with a "manager" to see if they can assist me. Each time coming back on the phone to say their hands are tied and even attempt to tell me I didn't experience what I experienced in Canada. I informed them that I needed a solution NOT more excuses. 4:50 rolls around and they FINALLY transfer me to a manager. Who again is not offering solutions but more excuses. FINALLY she says that she can email me a secure document and give me a pin for my chip card (which thank god I had on me due to me tossing it into the bottom of my purse 3 months earlier). I receive the email at 4:53p. I sign and Fax... Fax didn't pick up and therefore didn't send. So I am assisted by the nice folks at the general store to a scanner to scan document and email back. I get a call at 5:16pm that my chip card is activated and I was given my new pin.
Now I just need to find an ATM in the middle of the woods to activate this new card in order to buy groceries for my relaxing weekend away... If you cannot hear the frustration my apologies.
I will be talking to my attorney when I am back in town.
I had a temporary setback where I lost use of my phone and did not have money to address an overdraft. When I came in I was treated very rudely and told not to reopen my account with them, all as they took the money to settle it. I have never been treated that badly and I am very happy to have had an account with another New England bank that has never had a problem with me.
