When I got my first car on my own, the dealership had picked out Kirtland FCU as the bank to finance our loan. I kind of got stuck with this bank, but I feel as it chose me. I do like their e checking account, I also like they have cash back options for just debit. This is a good bank for someone who likes Starbucks or Panera Bread since those are two restaurants that they give cash back on if you use their debit card with them. My auto loan rates were reasonable, even when I had trouble with my credit scores later on. I would say the downside is there are only 3 locations in Albuquerque compared to some other credit unions in town. But overall I do enjoy this bank and recommend them for any loans or checking accounts you would need.
I am a past member of KFCU who left KFCU because I was not satisfied with their services as well as their changing attitude toward members. This was back in the 1990s. Current day I am dealing with my parent’s estate of which the bank accounts are at KFCU. KFCU placed a freeze on their accounts after my mother died, both my mother and father were gone at this point, which is normal procedure and I have no problem with. The problems began after my sister, and I were made co-representatives of the estate by the court. First, they will not accept or recognize a court order. KFCU has their own law (Be Aware!) and their own way of doing things irrespective of the law. We had to go through a long process to get the accounts open as estate accounts. They required us to open an estate account for each parent. I had to sign a signature card to allow this to happen. I have never had access in anyway to the two estate accounts since the day all of my parent’s assets were divided up into estate accounts. Only my sister has access which is troubling because we have never been close. Since March my sister has had total access to my parent’s accounts, I have been left in the dark. I have talked to at least eight people who work for KFCU who have stone cold refused to grant me access to the accounts even though in the eyes of the court I am equal to my sister. I was told to my face in person that only one person can have access the accounts. That there was nothing KFCU could do. I have a bank account with my wife, and we have separate logins for our joint account so what KFCU says is an outright discriminatory and unfair. Those sitting in the boardroom of KFCU making all rules obviously have no regard for members, least of all non-members whatsoever as they constantly undermine customer service with protocols and discriminatory practices that supersede customer service, basically destroying customer service in lieu of paranoia. They have taken paranoia to stratospheric levels making it extraordinarily difficult to deal with KFCU or work with them at all. I am now in a position where I am in the dark in terms of my parent’s accounts until the estate closes, I have no recourse. I have no idea what has happened to KFCU as at one time they were a decent credit union. KFCU has changed for worst, and I would never recommend KFCU to anyone. They have been cold and unresponsive, unwilling to help me at all. The few times I have visited a branch I felt uncomfortable, most recently never able to complete a transaction due to unfair and discriminatory practices due managerial paranoia. I realize there are bad people out there doing bad things but to punish everyone for the nefarious deeds of these people is unfair in the least nor is this good business. Business used to be done with a handshake but not any longer those days are over trust no longer exists. Being in business is a risky proposition for which there are no cures, but to hide behind paranoia and discriminatory protocols is not the answer. Business about service not finding way to avoid service. Be wary of dealing with KFCU, if you can avoid dealing with KFCU the better. It is scary what KFCU has become.
Do not get a bank account here. They will screw you out of your money and purposely take your account negative so you have to pay out more. I worked closing with KFCU regarding a charge that I did not receive the items for. I was told by the company to dispute the charge with my bank. I did so and filled out all the necessary paperwork needed to dispute the charge meanwhile never told that the credit could be reversed if the merchant deposited funds. The merchant did just that and with no notification or call, KFCU reversed their credit and took my account negative $60. This has been one of multiple problems I have had with this credit union. Go to Mountain America. DO NOT TRUST THIS BANK. They are shady and worse than Wells Fargo and take pride in screwing over military families.
