Knox TVA Credit Union is far behind their competitors concerning 5 year CD’s. When other major credit unions are offering 3.40% up to 4% why would anyone take under 2%?
I’ve only experienced this one branch in Kingsport. They have a huge turnover among their employees. It’s rare that you will have the same people assist you with anything between visits. The employees doesn’t stay long enough to get a firm hold on how to do their job. Several times when I ask them something they are unfamiliar with getting a member of higher management to show them how has never been an option. They immediately grab the phone and call another branch. The customer never gets an opportunity to discuss the problem at hand with the person on the other end which I would have preferred. The young man in the branch that acted as a go between scored very low marks passing on my concerns to the person on the other end. This young man had no clue what a direct transfer was. I have successfully accomplished this several times with ECU another larger credit union in town, with Fidelity that is also in the Tri Cities and with NFCU which is the largest credit union in the country. The teller insisted writing the check directly to me instead of to the financial institution I was sending it to and writing FBO of myself. I’ve done this a number of times and that’s how the much larger companies I’ve been members of have done it and it’s explained that way on IRA Publication 590-A. I had the young teller laugh in my face because he saw that I wasn’t happy. They also have an armed guard that sits and listens and he starts circling you and staring at you trying to intimidate you as a customer so you will just leave. It doesn’t matter if you are satisfied or not and to make matters worse a large man standing doing nothing at the rear of the credit union shouted something from the rear of the credit union. Eastman Credit Union has professionals that greet you and walk with you to their office and they answer every possible question that you can ask about any banking that you may have and if a rare chance they are not 100% sure, they go get their manager and a solution will be the goal that always satisfies everyone involved. At Knoxville TVA you will eventually see a good rate along the way. Even though it didn’t happen the last rate hikes that swept the country. Go to ECU if you want to be treated with respect and good professional long tenured employees. Kingsport go to ECU if you want to make 4.85% on 6 years instead of just 4% on 5 years. ECU is just across the highway.
I’ve been a customer for several years. I was offered a debt consolidation loan through their app with a much lower rate. I began an email exchange with their loan rep. The experience was very frustrating, she was unclear on expectations, and became confrontational and insulting when I raised concerns. I ended up receiving multiple emails with her typing paragraphs attacking me. The criteria that she was looking for was a billing statement or “something”. This was literally how professional and clear she was in communicating.
I also was told to get a 10 day debt pay off balance, and mailing address.
When I raised my concerns when more information was needing (the billing statement) she became hostile and retaliated by adding more hoops and demanded an official letter on company head for the debt pay off . When I expressed how frustrating this was and I was going to do a complaint. Her response was, do you want a supervisor???
This was retaliation, she was adding extra demands after becoming upset, and trying to punish me. At this point she had two months of paystubs, the original loan note, the 10 day debt pay off, account number, mailing address, credit report, screenshots of all payments made.
I’ve never been belittled or felt so small by a bank. This was really such a small loan. I wanted to do business locally and support the community. With how competitive the banking industry is, I will be pulling my money to Capital One or SoFi. I was not treated professionally nor was any value shown towards being a member of the credit union.
