MAPSCU has an overall friendly atmosphere and generally helpful staff members. I usually never have any issues when I go into their local branch, however, using their mobile site is difficult at times. They have a very smooth and easy site but it seems to be down for maintenance a lot of the time and isn't always accurately reflecting the correct amount in the bank accounts. I also think that their fees are really high for overdraft clocking in at $35 a pop, but they don't really charge fees for anything else so I suppose that's good. It's difficult to get them to waive the fees even when it's their own algorithm that prioritized the deposits incorrectly and it costs the consumer money when it shouldn't cost anyone money. Although they don't charge for things that bigger banks charge for usually so that's why I tend to use them. Overall I'm satisfied with them, however I think they could change a few things and make their mobile site more effective and work more consistently.
I used this credit union for a really long time due to it being local, and therefore having a lowered fee rate. I'm overall really pleased with how they handle overdraft fees. They're usually really low, and sometimes they'll wave them for you if you have a legitimate reason for an issue to have arisen. One of the issues I did have with this bank was that they employ a lot of new tellers, and there seems to be a quick turnaround rate. So, for example, I had my fiance go to deposit a pretty hefty check of mine, and there were some steps that the teller missed and he had to remind them of, and they were rather crucial steps. So that was a very unnerving experience, but that's the only time something like that has ever happened. Other than that minor snafu, the checking accounts and savings accounts are probably the banks best feature, as they are free and require no monthly activity or fee to operate.
I have never had an unpleasant experience when visiting my local branch of Maps Credit Union in Salem, Oregon. The people are always in an upbeat and positive mood, the lighting and layout are well thought out for the ease and protection of the client, and that is it you are treated more like a client, than a customer or consumer visiting for a deposit or withdrawal. No, they make the experience more old fashioned, most teller know you by name and greet you immediately when you come in! Not to mention they have a great little coffee area to get yourself something if you are waiting on a loan or more timely business. I enjoy doing my banking with such a pleasant example of true customer service, which is why I bank at Maps Credit Union.
There are so few banks or credit unions that offer actual free checking but MAPS is one of the last bastions of the free checking account! They have a great kids savings plan, too. My kids love that they get free stickers every time we come through the drive through station. The downside is limited hours compared to banks that are in grocery stores but the free checking makes it all worth it. You can check your balance or make transfers using their app on your smart phone. That is when the app is working. Going in and speaking to a teller is hit or miss. Some are organized and efficient while others take forever.
The last time I dealt with maps credit union, they had charged me an overdraft fee for something that was their fault. I had a pending payment that didn't show up on their online platform, but was registering in their database, which caused me to not know what my balance is. Then they rearranged my withdrawals so that that they could charge me FOUR separate overdraft fees instead of one. When I called them, they blamed me and only were willing to wave one of the fees. Another time that I had to deal with them, I had given a check for approximately $3,000.00 to my fiance to cash in an account that doesn't have my name on it, and they cashed it without even asking who it belonged to. Someone could have stolen my money! They have shady business practices, and they are rude to customers. They only care about the bottom line.
