I have been banking with Mazuma for over 10 years. There customer service is wonderful, and when I walk into my nearby branch, I am often greeted by name (they also offer me free coffee). I have checking, savings and a fairly large money market account with them and they pay very competitive interest on those balances. My free checking also includes a rewards program that earned me over $50 last year! Their online resources, both website and app, are things that I use virtually every day with ease. I am also quite pleased with the low fees charged on foreign currency transactions. The branch I use is quite close to home, but they also have branches and ATM's located throughout my metropolitan area.
I had purchased a car and used Mazuma as a loan for the amount. In doing so they automatically opened a savings account for me with an initial deposit of $25 that they graciously applied for me. It was nice to have this done because i didn't have a savings account previous to buying the car and this made it easy to open one and have both my loan and saving account in one place. I always had very great experiences with the staff when i was calling or in person. I still continue to use their services to this day. I did have one aspect that i looked at as negative, however this is only my personal opinion as some people may like the policy. I had moved and needed to update my address, i called them to just update them with the information and they couldn't take that over the phone. They told me that i could only come in person or mail a form to them that i would have to have sent to me first. I thought this would be a quick and fast thing to change but i was wrong. For security purposes i see why they would prefer to do this and how it could benefit the users. I just thought the idea was a bit annoying because i didn't live close to the credit union and didnt want to wait and mail something in.
Most of my experiences with Mazuma Credit Union has been positive, but many times their customer service was lacking. Opening an account there was easy and there were no charges. I was under 18 at the time, and they had a program for young people to save money, which I enrolled in. I can imagine this being attractive to people with young kids who want them to learn about saving, but as a teenager I was focused on spending the money I was earning at a part-time job. Mazuma was helpful when I lost my debit card. I was able to go in to my local branch and they printed a brand new one in the building and I was able to assign a new pin code there as well. It was nice to walk out with a new card. Where there service lacks is when there is a discrepancy in your account. This has happened to me three or four times, when one time is enough to seriously judge their customer service. I had to go back and forth between different departments several times, always retelling my complaint, and met with bad attitudes by almost everyone I spoke to. I finally closed my account after I had had enough of this.
I opened an account with them close to 10 years ago, and to your face they are a very friendly "Neighborhood" feeling bank. But when it comes to requesting information or getting details of your own account they are SEVERELY lacking. I had to point out the lack of a account and routing number accessibility, and their transaction reports won't include any information relating you to the transactions (this is important if you're trying to prove credibility during say... buying a house).
They once emailed my Account and Routing numbers to the wrong person.
Emails from Mazuma will take upwards of 45min. I have several times called them after a few hours asking if their email services were down, because I still had not received requested information.
I have had one of my checking accounts (I have 4) compromised with them multiple times(as opposed to the 0 times with another CU I bank with), and each time they just shut off my debit card without contacting me. I honestly thought they were shutting off my debit card due to inactivity for a bit. Nope.
So.. if you only want to do basic services and talk to them in person.. great bank. If you need more detailed or complicated things, then they're probably a bank worth skipping over.
One of the worst possible places to get a loan through. Easy to get a loan with them, almost anyone can, but it is almost impossible to pay your bill by phone or online. I don't feel like driving 1 hr to the nearest location to pay in person. They don't give you payment slips that you can pay by mail, you wait for over an hr to get a live person on phone, I think the purposely make it difficult so your payment will be kate so they can charge you a late fee. They charge you 15 dollars to pay over the phone. It even hard to give them a review. Won't except it. Don't use this company it adds nothing but unnecessary stress to your life
Not just one thing, they screw stuff over the place, credit card, car loan. Will start closing my stuff and go elsewhere.
Very disappointed. I changed to them for my car loan and it only took two weeks before I closed it. It was the worst customer service I have ever seen. I had a women tell me that the fact I can't see my money is not her problem I will never recommend banking here to any one.
