CDs only opened in person at a branch office. Check or wire funding, no ACH unless already have a checking account at the credit union. Staff is friendly on the phone, but caller is encouraged to come into office with questions. Online application process not worthwhile; no confirmation is provided for 2-3 days and may have to start application process over at a branch office. Excellent CD rates and checking account options.
I banked with MCFCU for a few years while I lived in the area. I was unsure of what a credit union really was until I started using them an they explained all the many things they offered. One of the things that caught my attention was the fact that, as a young person who just finished college and had a baby, they could help me and my husband build our credit. They worked with us on cars and loans an helped us get to a great place that allowed us to become more financially independent. They were always friendly and courteous and willing to help anytime we needed anything. They are not always at the forefront of new ideas and technology, but they offer as much as possible and seem to genuinely care for their customers. We were able to learn a lot about finance through them and get loans an do our day to day banking. One thing I have to say is, they were very slow in getting online billpay added and charge a bit of a fee for quite a while. I didn't like that.
I use to love my bank so much and the perks were just a bonus. But recently I have come to dislike it very much due to their new system of their ATM’s. The old system was able to deposit checks/ cash at any time. But now their new system does not allow you to deposit checks/ cash at all. I dislike a lot more because I am a full time worker. I work from 8 in the morning until 6/7 P.M, 7 days a week. It is so hard for me to drive all the way up to my bank and deposit a check without have to drive in a rush. I have a bank for a reason, I do not deal with cash, as to I am trying to build up my credit but can do so without my card. Also difficult on remote deposit due to the fact that it deposits you $200 and holds the rest until the next business day, I get paid on Fridays and have more than $200 payments due on the days I get paid. This bank has just become very very unpleasing towards me. I am highly thinking on changing my bank because I am so tired of dealing with this, as well as my family are too. Highly considering Bank of America.
This credit union stacks your pending checks against what is coming through in order to specifically cause customers to have multiple overdraft charges.
I had $155.78 in my account. In the same day I had a debt clear for $61.47. Then I had to debt clear for $10 each. Then I was charged two $30 dollar overdraft fees (Even though at this time even after the two drafts cleared I should have had $74.31 in the account). The two overdraft charges took me down to $14.31. Then a debt came in for $52.02 causing a third overdraft charge and taking my balance down to -$67.71. Then a 4th debt came in for $33.75 and recieved another overdraft fee, taking my balance to -$131.46.
The original amount in my account of $155.78 minus the items that cleared should have come out to -$14.46. Therefore there should have been only one item with an overdraft fee, not three. My account had the money for every item except the last one to clear. The only way this can possibly happen is if the bank is checking each item against all pending items. Instead I have been charged $120 in fees for accidently going $14.46 over in my account.
This is truly ridiculous. It should be illegal. I will be writing letters to the BBC, mycreditunion.gov and anyone else who will listen.
