Absolutely the best Credit Union/ Financial Institution hands down. I have had several Auto Loans as well as a Personal Loan and VISA and in my opinion, they have some of the best rates as well as the some of the friendliness / knowledgeable staff in the industry.
I have also been too the Grayling branch and they with addition to Gaylord and the Call Center are absolutely remarkable and I will Remain a member of this Institution indefinitely.
I have had several loans with Northland and the rates are very competitive. The level of service depends on which branch you go to. Mio, Hale, West Branch II are the best in my opinion for the ones that I have visited. Employees are nice and treat you like a friend.
My family banked exclusively with Northland growing up, so it was only natural that I open my first account there and expected my experience to be as positive as my families was. Unfortunately it wasn't so. Instead of guiding me in the process I was made to feel like I was an uneducated inconvenience.
At one time I wanted to add a checking account with a debit card to my new account and I was asked, "Do you really feel responsible enough for that?" Which, to be honest, was quite a blow to me. I already had my own apartment, car, and had been at my current job for over a year. In spite of all of this I stayed with the credit union for five years, as all their advertisements state that they are there for the community. After five years I switched to a bank, and I've had no complaints so far.
This CU serves my local fairly rural community in Northern Michigan. What I like best about it is the small town feel and that I am generally recognized when I go in. The employees there are genuinely friendly and helpful... without feeling manipulative. We often engage in local related conversation while doing business. I have had a few typical problems (not getting ATM card in mail, etc) and my problems have always been satisfactorily addressed. The website is user friendly without being excessively busy. I have had no security concerns, and almost always do not have a lengthy wait in line. I have never experienced any banking errors at this credit union, and the services they offer work just fine for me. I also have a better interest rate on my savings account than at a downstate bank with which I also maintain an account.
Bad manager , i went to northland bank drive thru trying to cash cashier check, i got day before from another bank when i closed my account, the manager didnt even bother calling other bank to verify the check, and i have account with northland, no sorry we cant cash check cause not sure of the amount. i told her to call other bank to verify and she said that not her job, if you want to deposit it, deposit it, but wouldnt cash it. seriously is this how you do business, lazy manager.
This CU is the worst financial institute I have ever had to deal with. I have been a member of NAFCU since they merged with Ogemaw County Credit Union in 1995. I was a member of OCCU since 1989. With this said, I have never been approved for a loan without a co-signer. Every loan I have had here has been paid in full and never late. The employees do not treat me with the respect I have become used to at the other 3 banks I deal with, on a personal and professional level. So save your time and energy, go to a bank.
