I think the best part about having PSCCU as my credit union is that I never have to think about it. Everything just works (website, debit cards, etc.). There's always someone friendly and knowledgeable to answer the phone, and since it's a local branch, they remember who I am, and that always feels nice. Their web interface was recently revamped, and is much more attractive than it was. I don't use their mobile banking option, but I occasionally use their normal online banking portal via my phone when I'm out and about, and it works just as well on mobile Android devices. The only fees I've ever even seen or heard of with them is the $5 overdraft transfer fee (if you don't have money in checking, it will transfer enough to checking from savings). This can be disabled as a feature, however. If I did that, I would never have to pay any fees. I love this credit union, and am continuing to use them despite having moved. Even living far away from any of their branches, I still have no problem or inconvenience using them, as they, like other quality credit unions, participate in shared branches, so I can do anything I might need to do at any other credit union.
I have had both a checking and a savings account here for over three years now. Until fairly recently my rural town in Washington (Vashon) had only big nationally established banks . Many locals worked together to create options due to dissatisfaction with the large banks. PSCCU worked well with those interested in providing more banking choices and a branch was established here in short order, even more quickly than had been first expected. When I walk in there is a almost never a wait (if there is, it is short) before speaking with a staff member. I have visited the CU on many occasions and have always had my questions answered satisfactorily. I have used their online services to swap money between savings and checking and have had no problems. I like their rates on overseas transactions because I often travel. I really get the feeling that the staff are here to serve the community and be a resource, instead of the larger banks that seemed more corporate and focused on fees. The town responded so well that there is even another CU here now. It's good to know that we have options now no matter what type of institution we prefer.
I submitted a membership application so I can open a CD account. Neither involve taking out credit, but they want to take a hard credit pull for the membership application, which could impact your credit score. I've previously opened three other local credit union accounts and none of them made hard credit inquiries when joining. Customer service was professional and responsive, but I didn't end up opening an account due to the hard pull.
