Allegacy Sucks

Being a member of Allegacy has been only an inconvenience. Once my car was paid off and that account was closed, they took a payment out more than once on that exact car loan that is non existent. Aside from taking my money, Allegacy customer service is the worst. There is extreme lack of communication and no one seems to know how to do anything when I call so I continually have to talk to someone's supervisor. It seems very disorganized.

More Locations

LOVE Allegacy! Best in the banking industry!
However - I recently moved to Charlotte and they only have one location & no outside ATM! this is very inconvenient, but I will not leave them. They are expanding in Winston Salem & Greensboro, but they really need to expand the Charlotte region.

Great credit union!

I have been with Allegacy for over 15 years. They have a number of account types available and offer competitive rates. For the "SmartRate Checking" they give you an APY of .5%. They offer a number of different types of savings accounts including a "Holiday Club" and a "Vacation Club", and there certificate options available. If you sign up for web banking, you have access to all of your accounts. Funds can easily be transferred and transactions can be tracked. The only fee I have encountered is an overdraft fee, which was $34. Customer service is easy to deal with and always very friendly. Online, there is an option to chat with a live representative if you prefer not to call. I have never had a bad experience with Allegacy. They will continue to get my business.

Allegacy Stole $923 From Me

Allegacy took $923 out of my checking account without asking, telling, or otherwise notifying me. They did this to cover my wife's overdrawn checking account. However, my wife and I have always been careful to keep our finances totally separate (b/c she tends to get overdrawn, etc.) Our accounts were not joint accounts, were not linked and this should never have happened. Do not trust Allegacy. I don't anymore!

GREEDY, GREEDY, GREEDY!!!

My employer uses Allegacy, and due to previous checks bouncing, I'm forced to cash my checks instead of depositing at my credit union (Trulaint, who is FAR superior, by the way.) Allegacy charges me $10 to cash my check. One thing is for sure, if I ever do move my business, it will not be toward Allegacy, as they have proven to me to care more about nickle and diming us, than serving us.

Great Experience

I have been member of Allegacy FCU for many years and have always had great service. The addition of a mobile app to keep up with my accounts has been very helpful.

Avoid At All Costs

I had a backup account at Allegacy that was basically dormant. Over time, their monthly fees dropped the balance to a negative ($6). Their reaction? A $5 PER DAY fee because my account was in the negative. It wound up costing me $150+ to close this account because they didn't notify me for 27 days!! Ridiculously poor "customer" service, poor response from the person I spoke with at the branch. DO NOT recommend.

Account Policies

I was not happy with my experiences with Allegacy. We had a car loan arranged through a dealership, which we paid off early. Allegacy insisted at the payoff that we invest an additional $200 to keep the account open for future use. We were not planning on borrowing any more at that time, but we followed their advice and made the deposit. We immediately ran into issues. Allegacy immediately charged us a "fee" which brought the account below $200. Three months later we got a statement charging us a "service fee" for not keeping the $200 balance in the account. I made a personal visit to the Allegacy office to get this corrected. I thought this fixed the problem.

Two years later I have closed the account. Allegacy billed me for a $5.00 dormancy fee every three months, so as of July 1, 2012 my account had shrunk to about $182. At that point I have closed the account.

I have been a member of two other credit unions for over 50 years and this is the only credit union that has charged me to keep my money. Needless to say any interest I accrued was offset by the fees charged. I would recommend that you not use Allegacy for your credit union.
