I have a small loan with them. They have me on autopay. They take money out of my account twice a month in error. When I tell them to only take it once, they gaslight me and tell me that I'm manually paying each month in addition to the autopay. I am not doing that. They also tell me that it won't get pulled out again the next month since I'm paid up several months in advance (because of all the duplicate payments) yet it comes out again after a few days. I cannot get them to stop. I've emailed and called a dozen times. This bank sucks
HARD PULL !! It stays on records for 2 years ...
ALL MANUAL WORK and PEOPLE DEPENDENCY
Very few employees and only couple of them were helpful in answering any questions by email or phone. Took a week to open a savings account. Opened Checking account and CD later , there were some errors , took more time to rectify. Be prepared to have lot of patience and do continuous follow-ups. If the rates change , be prepared to speak with different people and request to honor the rate. Most likely it will not be honored. Try your luck. For adding joint holder , there was another hard pull for the joint holder and then another credit check if you choose to add more products.
Plan well before you submit your application!
wanted to do 500 K in CD's
needed to speak to real person, tried for
4 days to get rep to call me . After numerous
calls trying to get rep, gave up and went else were.
went for slightly lower rate but NO problem signing
up or commutation with other bank. straight
forward , avoid bull & hassle of getting no where and wasting time !!! like reviews state =
Stay away, go elsewhere, avoid headaches !!!
I called on Monday, 11/21/22 with basic questions on opening a 5 YR CD. The CS agent could not help me but said that another agent would call me on Tuesday. Well, it’s Wednesday, 11/23/22 and no call. I was waiting to see if someone would call to test their CS competence. So far, I am very disappointed. I’ll call on Friday.
Refused to waive penalties when I asked to move my CD into another 5 year CD in their institution prior to maturity, rather than withdrawing and placing in another bank. It took me several weeks to get a response to this question because I had to 1st start with a customer account rep and then ask someone higher up.
Other banks and credit unions waive fees if you keep the money in their bank, so I would stay away from this credit union if you want real customer service. They don't value anyone's patronage.
CSRs don't open CDs. They take the info about the CD and forward it to a "specialist". The specialist may open your CD the day of the request, the next day, or God knows when. If rates go down, you get the lower rate. They don't offer to back date it so you get the higher rate and they don't offer to pay any lost interest. Don't waste your time.
My family opened an account with the credit union. We started using the account eventually. We deposited 1st time two personal Cheques from social securty.
Credit union put the 1st check on hold for 5 days and second one for 15 days on grounds of fraud.
We did not have any idea why our debit cards were getting declined. We called and found out the what credit union had done
No one in the credit union, including top leadership for nothing or provide any update
We have never felt so helpless with zero help. We still don’t have an idea if they will keep our SSI cheque on hold we use for our daily lively hood.
We had to go through lot of financial hardship mother being a 90 year old hospice patient and son being disabled
We had no money with us due to crecit union incompetency, wrong policies and poor customer service
Carefully read the message and think before using this credit union.
We have quit the crecit union and diverted our direct deposits to another bank
Finally we feel relieved. We will have to wait for another 18 days before our SSI payment come. We will somehow borrow money and manage but will never forget this experience
Have to agree with reviews both good & bad. When I first applied for a new joint cd the process went smoothly, although it was cumbersome having to establish a membership in the American Consumer Council, as well as open a savings acct with a $5 minimum.
Problems arose when I next applied for an individual cd/savings acct. Since I had already listed myself as the primary on the joint application, I could not have another account with me as the primary. I had to switch the primary to my spouse, so I could open the individual cd & savings acct. All the online documents & follow up phone calls took many weeks to approve and make the necessary changes. Most of the folks I spoke with were very pleasant and apologized for the delay stating they had received an overwhelming response and were working weekends to resolve.
After about a month my second cd & savings acct were finally established. Even though the rates had dropped, I was assured I would receive the APY advertised at the time of my application, and I did! Just need persistance & patience. Don't think I would jump through all these hoops again.
Started on May 5 with application for a CD, was not accepted until May 19. Was funded on same day, and deposited to Savings account. Still no CD. Hard pull on Credit, my score went down. CS people said they would correct it and call me back. No calls, emails etc. Meanwhile, the rates dropped 2 times while I was waiting. I gave up today 6/1/22 and closed account, told to submit form for closing with photo ID? Sounds like their phone system is low rent.
Opened a CD with another provider just now, completed and accepted in 20 minutes.
Had to concur with other reviewers. Nothing happened after putting in the online member application on 5/15. At the time I was told the timeframe is to receive email in 24-72 hours. I made a follow-up call 2 days later and verified that nothing more is needed from me.
At the same time, the rate dropped a bit. Obviously they don't really want my money. I have not canceled my application just to see how long it will take...
Signing up was a little confusing and lengthy but I plodded through and got my CD in less than a week! I'm very pleased with the rate.
After 9 days of applying on line my account was finally approved. Of course now the rates have dropped. After so many calls to them to get it open they never once called back. I called today hoping they would honor the previous rate but NO, they wouldn’t do that. I told them to close my account and send the $5 back. Oh, of course the day I applied for membership they did a Chex System pull. I’ve never dealt with such a poorly run financial institution before. Avoid Department of Commerce FCU. I would give it negative stars if I could.
I was fortunate enough to apply very early, and my savings account was set up by May 4. However, since then things have ground to a halt. For every new product, you have to click on Loans! (poor website design), then existing member, then the CD or checking account or whatever. It has been 2 weeks since I applied for my checking account, and I have heard nothing. I have also opened 2 CDs since then, and nothing. My initial deposit is still sitting in my savings account. For every single product you open, checking, money market, CD, you have to fill out a whole new application including pictures of two forms of government issued i.d.
Back to website design, using an iPad, there is no way to get information on the rewards page. The link just takes you back to the landing page. It's a little complicated, so that is a big miss. Also, there is no way to tell online how many points you have and whether you are bronze, silver, or gold. Since these categories give you bonus interest on CDs, it's important information. Apparently, they manually adjust your CD rate after the fact. Also, the toll free number listed for contacting them does not work.
The customer service reps have been helpful, but the lag time in opening any account made me rate 3 stars. Also if you call on a weekend, the system puts you in queue to speak to a service rep, but there are no service reps on the weekend.
I applied on-line on 5/5 and was given an application number. It is now 5/17 and no further response from the new accounts folks. The CSRs told me they cannot talk to the new accounts folks and neither can I. You cannot even get a ballpark estimate as to when your application might be processed. I was actually told today that the wait would be indefinite. Since my money cannot sit around indefinitely, I cancelled my application. They seem to be a small credit union with a small credit union mentality and not ready for the attention brought to them by their high CD rates. Hello, Penfed.
Applied for an account on Monday. I talked to a CR and was told someone would call the next day. No call on Tuesday. I called on Wednesday and was giving the number for Sienna Lee who handles new accounts. I left a message for her to call me. She never called. Called on Friday and was given the run around as before. They want to know my monthly income, how long I lived in my house, if it was paid for and other personal information. I’m thinking they do this just to sell my information. I guess the don’t want my $100,000+ in their bank. Suggest everyone stay away from this place like the plague. Horrible, horrible, horrible. Zero stars if I could.
I filled out an application on line Saturday and funded it today. How easy is that! The CSR was helpful and attentive to setting up a ACH for the CD.
Wouldn't want others to be put up by any misunderstanding of the process and ease to do business with Department of Commerce Federal Credit Union.
Wanted to take advantage of their CD rates so I applied online Tuesday (5/3) AM and got a completion screen with the message that my app number was xxxxxx, I was pre-qualified and a New Member associate with get with me soon to finalize everything. Figured I would least get an email notice that I had applied. Nothing. Thursday I called them asking about the status of my app but I was told that the membership department did not take calls originating outside the bank so I had to give my information to the phone rep who promised she would get it to the membership department and they would contact me. Crickets. Early Friday AM I sent them an email from their website and have still heard nothing. If their rates were not so attractive I would ditch the entire effort. If anyone else has had better luck, congratulations.
