Opened a CD in 2023 for a good rate. Their website didn't offer an option to not renew the CD, but I figured it would be a simple matter of contacting them once the CD matured. I was very wrong: when the time came, I had to physically fill out and sign a form and upload it (or fax!) with a copy of my ID just to have the money transferred to my checking account at Hyperion.
I have used DepositAccounts.com for about 8 or 10 years now, have had accounts at over three dozen online institutions, and have generally had positive experiences. Hyperion has been so incompetent that I will never open an account with them, no matter how high the rate.
I had an 18-month CD mature on 11/9/24. It is now 11/30/24 and my funds still have not been returned to me.
First, it took several days of calling before I was able to reach a live person. I also sent emails that were not returned. When I finally reached someone, I was told my only options were a wire transfer for $25 or a check in the mail. I was penny-wise and pound-foolish, and opted for the check in the mail.
After a week I still had not received it. Through phone calls and emails I was told that I should wait a few more days, which I did. When the check still did not arrive, I asked them to put a stop payment on the check and wire me my funds. That's when things got much worse.
They claim they are not legally able to stop payment -- on their own check -- until 91 days have passed. But they also said they would stop payment if I purchased my own indemnity bond, and they supplied me with contact information for a company where I could purchase one. I did not call, and don't know how much it would have cost me to do so. My replies to them asserted that this is their problem to fix, not mine. I received a reply from a VP of marketing, to whom the issue was escalated; he merely reiterated what I had been told, and (of course) apologized "for the inconvenience."
I waited another several days, still no check in the mail. I would be earning about $5.50 per day if I had the funds in a money market account, so I am now down $115 in interest I could have been earning. And there's no telling how long it will take before I finally get my money.
Now I have to go through the time and expense of getting a lawyer -- I have no idea what else to do, other than drive down to Philadelphia and go into the branch. But I sure don't expect to get anywhere going that route.
Can anyone tell me, is this even legal, what they're doing? My account is closed, but the funds are still on Hyperion's balance sheet. So they're earning interest on my money, while I'm losing interest, and it seems all they have to do is claim "the check is lost in the mail, we can't do a thing for 91 days" and I'm S.O.O.L. Has anyone had this problem, and found a solution?
Thanks for listening to the rant.

BEWARE - This bank will ignore you if your CD is maturing, should be reported for unfair deceptive acts and practices as they will not let you close the account unless you pay a wire fee or go to one of their limited locations to get a cashier's check. They do NOT TELL YOU THIS because they don't answer the phone and you eventually may have to drive thousands of miles to get your money.
Should be written up for civil money penalties if you ask me.
I am extremely disappointed with the customer service at Hyperion Bank. I have been trying to retrieve funds from my CD, but it has been a frustrating experience. The bank has not been responsive, and after repeated attempts to contact them, no one picks up the phone or returns my calls. It feels as though I’m going in circles with no one available to help me access my own money.
My CD matured on 11/11/24, and I have sent them all the paperwork they needed to complete the wire transfer. I have been calling them since 11/11/24 (they were closed), 11/12/24 no answer, and today the same thing no answer. I called both branches, Georgia and Pennsylvania.
This lack of communication and support is unacceptable, especially when dealing with personal finances. Banks should prioritize the accessibility and responsiveness of their customer service, and this experience has seriously impacted my trust in Hyperion. I hope they address these issues, as customers deserve reliable service and support for their financial needs.
I would give the bank a 0 star if there’s an option to do so. Wasn’t going to do a review until we saw someone else had to deal with the same headaches as us. Our CD matured 11/12/24. We called yesterday and they were closed on Veterans Day. We called today many times and left voice messages and no one got back to us. Finally someone answered the phone after we tried to call using a different phone. They told us either cashier’s check or pay $25 for wire transfer. We went with the wire option since the receiving bank will credit us the fee. We filled out all the necessary paper work and emailed to them via their secure email portal. We checked our bank account at night and the wire hasn’t done even though the rep said as long as we send them the docs before 3pm and they’ll complete the wire transfer quickly, usually within the hour. Will have to call them again and I’m sure the calls will go to their voice mailbox again. This is a once and done experience for us. I highly do not recommend this bank to anyone unless you don’t mind the headaches.
Hyperion Bank still has a way to go to be competitive with other banks/credit unions as far as technology is concerned.
Opened account online in April 2023, and surprised to discover that there was a 14 or 15 character password MINIMUM. I'm all for security, and having a minimum, but say 10 characters, which would still be almost 20 years or so with current COTS equipment to brute force seems more than adequate.. again, as a MINIMUM. But requiring 14 characters seems a bit excessive. I'm not aware of any major financial institutions that have such a requirement.
Their UI upon login, seems like it could have been coded by a first year HTML CS101 student. But, what I found remarkable in this day and age, where I was able to fully setup/establish/fund the account all electronically does NOT have an online repository to view/obtain Tax forms. When inquired, they said one needs to be "mailed out" via USPS.
Further, with the lack of tax forms available online, they also do not have STATEMENTS available online either. Instead, they have something called "REPORTS", which you can set a few parameters such a start and end date to see activity during those times. It *somewhat* does the job, but not exactly what I imagined would be a STATEMENT.
When I discovered the first couple idiosyncrasies, I figured I'd just live with it since my CD ends towards the end of this year, but having to wait until they send me a tax form before I can complete my taxes provides me time to write this review to share my experience for others to set expectations if planning to establish a relationship with Hyperion Bank.
Do not waste your time let alone give them your money. Hyperion bank is Rood and Disrespectful.
I filled out their application for their 15 months 5.65% $100,000 CD special including my routing number and account number. Never heard anything from Hyperion bank. NO thank you, NO confirmation.
I called after four days and she told me there was 20 applications before mine and it might be weeks before I know. She made me feel like I was bothering her. I was convinced that Hyperion bank was a scam so I canceled my savings account so they couldn't steel my money.
Looked at Hyperion web site. No way to find Cd rates. Only one way to open an account and you don't know what kind till you start opening the account. I did not even proceed. I have to give them a one in all categories, except customer service. If they cannot build a website that is halfway understandable and give some kind of savings rates, it is not even worth your time to talk to customer service.
If anyone here does waste their time and finds Cd rates (on their web site), please tell me, so I can remove this post.
Wanting to open a promotional CD, I first opened a savings account. With that established, I tried opening the CD, only to receive an email a day later that it was denied.
I called the same day I received the message: closed for the day. I called the next day: no answer, "please leave a voicemail and we'll return your call today". Never received a call that day, or the next. I called in the next day and someone answered, explained that the CD application was denied due to my ChexSystems report being frozen (didn't know they'd pull it again for the CD). The real issue though was that they wouldn't reconsider the denial and had pulled the CD offer, meaning I went to all this trouble for nothing.
Even if the CD had been approved, their terms stated that the account must be funded before the offer ends. I'm doubtful the ACH would have been able to process before they pulled the CD, and given their attitude on the phone, it really seemed like they were looking for reasons to stop more people from getting this CD.
Burned bridge: I'll close the savings account and won't consider banking with them again.
On their web :
The Special CD Promotion Is No Longer Available.
and no in the list of application.
Yesterday it was APY=5.5% for 19 m.
I open the cd account and hyperion bank send two small deposits from my other bank but failed. hyperion bank ask me to email back or call back 215-789-4200, so I called my other bank and verified the routing number and account number and called 215-789-4200. a person called bob answer the phone and act strange. he said he will talk to his supervisor. then he refuse to take my information/honor the email and demand me to wire a check. I ask to talk to his supervisor. he said he is branch manager. I am very concerned, it does not sound like a bank. it is more like a sell office for scam. but deposit account website rated this bank health A, I am confused.
First let me write something positive about Hyperion Bank. When I called in, a real live, presumable native English speaking CSR (customer service representative) answered the phone on the second to third ring. That is something rare.
Earlier this year I applied for membership to Hyperion Bank. As you would expect the online application involved including very personal information like, name, address, SSN, birthday Mother's maiden name, drivers license number etc.
I applied late at night and my application was rejected by email under 8 hours later. No reason given. I called the next day to inquire why.
I was told by the CSR that I did not meet some criteria that a small bank like Hyperion needed to accept new applicants. What that criteria is.... I don't have a clue.
I have an over 800 credit score so that could not be the issue. Besides my credit reports were frozen at the big three credit reporting agencies so Hyperion bank could not run a credit report if they wanted.
Maybe they have a minimum income requirements... I but don't recall being asked my income on Hyperion Bank's online application.
Maybe they want locals only. Then Hyperion should stop the application once my address is deemed not local
Hyperion should be transparent about what their criteria is for applying for membership with their bank. I wasted my time applying to Hyperion because of some "secret criteria" I did not meet.
In the end I can help but wonder if I was illegally discriminated against.
