I have not been refunded by $50 and $5 initial account funding transactions from back on Oct 23rd/24th when I applied for a new checking account at La Capitol Federal Credit Union and decided to cancel my application since they asked me to contribute $20 annually to Louisiana Association for Personal Financial Achievement (ACHIEVE). I did not want to have to contribute $20 annually to Louisiana Association for Personal Financial Achievement (ACHIEVE) so I asked La Capitol Federal Credit Union (employee L360 / opsnao / Maryland) to cancel my application for new account and refund my $50 and $5 initial account funding transactions. To date I have not received my money back and I have not received an account or account number from La Capitol Federal Credit Union, they are simply holding my money in limbo. I am filing a formal complaint to the National Credit Union Administration (NCUA) via mycreditunion.gov against La Capitol Federal Credit Union
I have been a customer with La Capitol for about a year. I like getting 4.25% interest every month. Making 25 debits a month seems a lot but there are no minimum amounts for these. There is a change as of 4/1/18 where they are lowering it to 15 debits a month, cap is now $3,000 vs. $5,000 on 4.25% but over $3,000 it is 2% which still isn't bad. They have great customer service and I would highly recommend this bank. You will need to make a $20 donation but it is worth it to me.
In opening a saving account and Visa credit card at La Capitol I have had one problem after another. The website is difficult to use, and the forms sometimes don't function properly. I have had to submit the same form regarding autopay three times, and getting auto pay turned off has taken 4 months. They keep charging my saving account for each of these overdrawn payments (which I keep asking to have turned off, as I mail my payments for the credit card each month). Hold times are long, and most of the time the person I speak to "doesn't have the authority" to do most things I am asking about. As soon as I pay my credit card off, I will with a sigh of relief close the checking account I am required to keep as part of my credit card agreement. I have literally spent HOURS on the phone this year with La Cap, and look forward to a time when my debt will be paid, or held by another company. Sad, as I am a big supporter of credit unions. If you can open an account somewhere else, I highly suggest it.
Being a previous loan customer apparently means nothing to LA Capitol. Tried to finance another loan through them and instead of being willing to do a little extra work to help us they just tell you no because they can't verify information. Well, if you don't try then you definitely can't. Terrible attitude from rep working with us and an unwillingness to do a small amount of work to earn business and help a potential customer. Apparently LA Capitol has all the business they need if they treat people like this! If you are looking for an auto loan and want someone who will "work" for you don't bother going to LA Capitol.
Just posting to advise that anyone can join credit union by joining Louisiana Association for Personal Financial Achievement (ACHIEVE) for $5/year. Web site for ACHIEVE is: www.lapfa.org.
It is unclear to me at the moment if you have to be a LA resident to join ACHIEVE. I will post again if I can figure this out.
