I opened a checking and savings account a few years ago because the interest earned was exceptional for a particular program. A few months after I opened up my account the interest rate dropped to 1/3 of the original amount offered. I still kept the account because it would be a pain to close it. I’ve had to call a few times with questions and it is not easy to get anybody on the phone and get answers. I just called yesterday because I saw a posted interest rate on a savings account and The person I was speaking to had no clue what the interest rate on a savings account was. I was put on hold for quite a while, she came back with an answer which did not make sense to me. The manager was not available, she said the manager would call me back, and I have not received a return call. As far as I am concerned this is terrible customer service. I need to transfer my money
Liberty Savings Bank is not offering this rate: 1.06%
Verified by calling.
Liberty Savings was not transparent this time as they were in the past.
Big Interest Savings pays 0.5% on ALL balances.
I've been a member for almost 2 years. You cannot beat their rates. A no-fee checking account earns 3% up to $25K, even in this dismal rate environment. They have not changed this rate, even as rates everywhere have plummeted. Savings account up to $50K earns 1.5%, again unchanged in 2 years. If you want to sweep higher balance accounts to stay within Federal guarantee limits, they can do that.
The customer service at the branch in South Sarasota is excellent. Not a single problem there.
The website, not so much. You can only access back statements online for 3 months, which is a problem if you don't reconcile frequently. I presume that the branch manager could fix that if needed, though. The website can shut down "for maintenance" at night with no notice, so you can't always count on checking your account in the wee hours. There is a maximum ACH limit per day, but if you need more--which I did when buying a house--the manager contacts operations department and lifts the limit for what you need for that instance. I must say that the branch manager works to make me happy whenever there is a problem with the site, but I subtracted a star because the website is not very robust. It needs work.
When the account is less than 90 days old, there are low limits to what you can withdraw from the ATM or even what you can deposit for the first 90 days, but again, the branch manager has helped me with that.
All this works because I am near a bricks-and-mortar branch, and it was easy to establish a relationship. I think it would be harder to get around the limits if you're an online customer only.
The rates seemed great so I opened a checking and savings account there. I've had a lot of issues already. They don't automatically send you a debit card when you open a checking account. You have to wait 10-12 business days (in case they did send it). Then re-apply online for one to be sent to you.
Depositing mobile checks isn't an option until you've had an account open for 3 months. That is unheard of. And it's DEFINITELY something that should be waived in the current COVID-19 Climate.
Emailed the customer service email 4 times with no response on various issues.
However, the team at the branches seem to be helpful and friendly. So that's a plus.
Update 3/29/21
The only benefit of this bank was their exceptional interest rates. After jumping through multiple hoops to make sure my account was eligible for them; they dropped them down significantly with just a casual email.
Now there is definitely no benefits, extremely difficult to deposit mobile checks (get up with the times!) and limits are insane.
Seriously, no reason to bank here over banks that offer so much more on a day to day ease of use.
I thought these links provided some interesting history about Liberty Savings Bank.

Basically, First Financial purchased Liberty’s 16 Ohio branches in 2011. I thought their services was poor.
My wife and I have been customers of the branch in Venice for a while. Excellent customer service, convenient location. Highly recommend.
Have been a customer of their's for 5 years and they used to be pretty good but over the last couple of years their customer service has completely gone down the toilet. They use every excuse they can to try and hold your deposits, even payroll checks, as long as they can so they can make money off your money. I have 3 accounts with them, one personal and two business accounts, and will be closing all three accounts the second they release the funds of mine they currently have on hold. I wouldn't recommend this bank to ANYONE!
Worst bank out there do not sign up I did the mistake of going with them and had a very bad experience. They do not try to help you out my first over draft they said sorry you need to pay, won’t compromise at all despite the fact i lost my job. Stupid hours not open Saturday what the hell is up with that and close at 4 or 5 during the week and even earlier on Saturday I’m sorry I’m a working women and do not get home till 5:30. And now I have an overdraft fee initial 38 damn bucks and if you don’t pay it you are charged 8 $ if you wait four days and the 8 keeps compounding with each day you don’t pay. please I beg of you save yourself the trouble, money, and misery and find a good decent bank i have had nothing but problems, bad customer service, and they took a lot of my money, oh and by the way there bank atm will not accept cash or check you have to put it in an envelope and wait till the next business day (if its Friday it won’t be in your accounts till Monday if it cash)for them to cash it also checks take between 5-7 biz days.
