Flaky Application Process

They have two ways to open the HYSA account online. The first one is to have their AI scan the back of your drivers license to fill in some of the basic information. Well, AI was more like AS (Artificial Stupidity). It hung-up for no apparent reason. I tried the second option to fill-in the form manually. Things went well until it became time to provide a picture of my drivers license. It wouldn't just let me upload a JPG file. It wanted to use my computer's camera! Well, that's a definite security no, no. I called the number for online account assistance and they were useless. The local branch wasn't any better. The only reason that I bothered with Poppy was because they don't require you to unfreeze your credit reports. They just use Chex Sytems It probably would have taken less time to unfreeze my credit reports. So, I give up.

Hands Down The #1 Bank In The U.S.

Posted by: |

I've been with Poppy since January 4th of this year and have rated this bank at the top ever since. They keep their word on everything they promote and have yet to let me down. I'm online only so have to rely on their website which is tops to load and navigate. They have online messaging and respond quickly to any question. They have increased their external transfer limit to $100,000 now which is unusual for a bank that also offers the highest interest rate on a savings account. They recently dropped their savings account interest to 5% but are still honoring us old timers that got in many months ago. I've got an account at over 25 financial institutions and if I could find a better bank than Poppy I would join it, but so far that hasn't happened.

Funds Transferred Out Of Poppy To Funding Only

Posted by: |

Anyone told withdrawals are only allowed to the funding account?
Poppy Premium Savings
Funds requested to be transferred out of your Poppy Bank account will will only be approved and processed if they are being returned to the account used to fund your new Savings account.

When I called. CSR told me new funds amount is bound to the funding external for 60 days. CSR said all FIs do that. IDK head scratch

No Mobile Depost! Low Quality!

Posted by: |

There app doesn't even have a mobile check deposit! What's an app and bank good for if it doesn't have check deposit! They don't even have and older version of app so phone users with older iOS versions can't download! They don't have the best direct Customer Service. The transfer holds are long and they keep putting scheduled transfers "under review". A lot of run-arounds. But, so far the higher interest keeps me around. If they pull a fast one and drop the interest rate, I'm out.

Excellent Experience With Poppy Bank

Posted by: |

Excellent experience with Poppy's Online Savings...
No Problems No Issues No Drama = Happy Customer as I have been with them since December 2023 did not run into any transfer issues like others...

WORST.BANK.EVER

Let me list the ways:

Mobile Check Deposit doesn't work no matter what you do

They will cancel your transfers with no warning. Not a text or email. And it will happen 4 times in a row. You'll call and say what gives? And they will list 3 different things they claim you aren't allowed to do which you will then point out you've done once a month for 6 months with this account. They will have zero explanation.

And when you say, "I am trying to buy a house. I need my down payment sent to my account RIGHT NOW. They will say "submit it again". You will and the process repeats itself.

They will email you and say you have an account not allowed to be an external account. But won't tell you which one.

If you care about being able to access *your money* go elsewhere. This is the worst bank I have ever dealt with.

No one has idea what the rules are.

I don't understand why they make it so difficult. I figured any bank would be happy to have a big chunk of money on their books. Not this one.

60 Day Hold Rule

I made a request online to transfer funds from my Poppy Bank Premier Online Savings Account to an external bank account. I received a call from the Operations Dept. informing me that I could not transfer the full amount requested because deposits that were less than 60 days old are not eligible to be transferred out of Poppy Bank. Why? This is a savings account, not a 60 days CD! Is that even legal?

My Transfer Is Held Hostage. Wants Me To Update My Phone To Have Their Mobile App!

Suddenly puts incoming transfer from verified external accounts "under review" without letting you to even cancel the transfer without authorization!
They force you to get a new phone version you don't want to get their mobile app, unlike other bank apps that let me download older versions of their apps as I please. Not getting a new phone for you Apple shills! Don't have a Zelle option for savings account, and nothing on their website. Pathetic.
I've never encountered a "customer service" number that leads to someone telling u they can't service customers beside maybe submitted a call back form so someone may attempt to call back after 2 days!! And you can't call them back yourself because they don't pick up! My INCOMING transfer is still stuck since last week! I message their useless customer service and left messages! Absolutely useless "service" and system!
Have submitted my account opening information to data collection systems without my authorization! Privacy violation!

Don't Bank At Poppy Bank If You Can

Posted by: |

I deposited and opened a savings account with Poppy bank based on their rates, my greatest regret since money was taken out from my external account more than 4 days ago so far money has not shown up in my account more than 5 calls have been made with no success even central operation I was supposed to get a call from them, nothing.
My plan is to withdraw money once my money is on the account

They Don't Let You Withdraw For Many Months!!

Posted by: |

I was fooled by Poppy. I deposited money in the savings account, and it turns out they have a 90 day hold rule. And then only 25K can be withdrawn per month max. Also, they won't allow you to add beneficiaries online - you have to go in person to a bank location.
Wish I'd never given them my money because they have unfair banking practices.

Review Of Poppy Bank By REAL Customer In Banking Industry

Posted by: |

Since 1995 I have been a banking software & check printing supplier so I owkr with HUNDREDS of banks and their systems. I normally have checking and savings accounts at at least 6 and constantly move $ as interest rates change.
I opened a Premier Savings 5.50%APY 6mo guaranteed rate account on 1/3/2024 with ZERO app issues. HOWEVER, I then tried to get more info by phone about how I might be able to move my sizable balance if/when I find a better bank offer. TRYING TO GET A KNOWLEDGABLE HUMAN AT 888-636-9994 IS IMPOSSIBLE. Spoke to 3 agents who could only repeat the EXACT same info as if reading a script. I was told to call a Poppy Bank branch. That became Mission Impossible #2. Left a message 7 WEEKS AGO and NOBODY has ever phoned me back. FYI, BEST Bank I've ever found for customer phone service and website features is Primis Bank.

Unfortunate!

I have been attempting to open a savings account for the last month. I have been met with nothing but road blocks or no response from the poppy bank team. They used ChexSystems as a third party to determine if they would allow me to open an account. Upon denial I requested a report from ChexSystems. Its arrived and there was NOTHING on the report. Not a negative mark in site. I have an over 800 credit score. Have held accounts at my other banks for over 20 years. And have ZERO reason to be denied an account.I find it appalling that I want to put MY money in a local bank ( I am a Santa Rosa local) and I am being denied by for no apparent reason. I have reached out to Poppy Bank multiple times. Providing them with copies of the ChexSystems report. Then to add insult to injury, the bank doesn’t even have the courtesy to respond to my inquiries as to why this is the case when I have documentation from ChexSystems with negative reports. I’ll go put my money in a bank that cares!

NO Beneficiaries Allowed With This 5.5 Apy Acct

on 2/19/24-I called & interestingly NO beneficiaries allowed with this 5.5 apy acct, just allow individual or joint acct

Very Rude And Bad Branch Manager

Posted by: |

Don't believe in what Poppy Bank publicly posted on internet or their paper ads. The only condition that is printed on their paper ads for opening new premier savings is " Deposits to this account must be new to Poppy Bank and may not originate from another account at Poppy Bank."

This morning, I brought NEW money to open a new premier saving but they refused with the reason I already opened another premier saving about 3 weeks ago!? THIS REASON IS NOT LISTED on their paper ads. I kindly asked them to provide me a paper with that reason is written, but the branch Manager guy at Elk Grove location just rudely refused. He just wanted to talk verbally and threatened to throw me out if I consistently asked for a written paper.

The Poppy Bank branch at Elk Grove location currently has a bad Management team who are very rude.

How Are The ACH Limits?

Posted by: |

Has anyone been able to determine how many accounts at other fin. institutions could be set up for ACH? And how high are the ACH transfer limits (if the transfer request originates from an outside FI)? This wasn't clear from product literature on the web site.

STAY AWAY FROM THIS PARTICULAR FINANCIAL INSTITUTION

Posted by: |

I applied for an online savings account and was declined. It claimed that it could not verify my personal data. It failed and refused to provide the method of verification and source(s) used. It also claimed, without evidence, that my personal information is associated with fraudulent transactions. Public data sources often do not contain accurate public information about individuals. For safety and security reasons, my personal and private information is not on sale and is not meant to be sold or made public like the people who run this financial institution desire. Other than for Poppy Bank, public data sources do not determine where I can live, work, and bank.

Best Online Bank In The US!

Posted by: |

I'm new to this site but just opened an online account with Poppy Bank one month ago. Going to give a FAIR and ACCURATE comment on this bank, so the snipe that has been dinging first time reviewers as possible bank employees can stiffle, I am NOT an employee but a satisfied customer. I was fortunate and got in just under the wire and received a savings account with 5.5% interest guaranteed for 6 months. They recently dropped that to 3 months, but that is still the best rate going in the US. I am always leery of things that sound too good to be true but performed a field test of every aspect of Poppy Bank and they passed with flying colors. I messaged their customer service online and got immediate responses with correct information. Their website is the best of all of my financial accounts and can immediately access my account either on my computer or mobile app, BOTH are the best! I only want a savings account with them and that is all I obtained for now, but everything they have done makes them more desirable for a long time service as my MAIN bank. I just requested a money transfer from my Poppy Account to an external bank and it was done overnight. There are NO fees that I have seen yet on my savings account. NOW, I'm getting ready to post this and I have the reply alert button checked, if any of you drifters want to accuse me of being a Poppy Bank employee or a fraud, BRING IT ON! I will respond!

Great Rates. Knowledgeable Staff

I tried opening an online account and was at first denied. Spoke with a representative and there was an error in my surname. I was able to resolve the issue within 30 min. Representative was knowledgeable and responsive and I was able to open and fund the account without issues.

Great Rates And Friendly Staff

I love the convenience of my local branch and the staff is always friendly and helpful. They have very competitive rates available at the branch and online. The online high-yield savings account application process was quick and easy.

Great Experience

Posted by: |

They create a great overall experience. The branch looks great, the staff is polite and knowledgeable and they offer great rates. The bank is somewhere I feel comfortable leaving my money at.

Declined - Perfect Credit And History

I was also declined without explanation, except to "check ChexSystems report", which is different than your credit report. My credit score is 850. I pulled my Chex report - not one inaccuracy or ding of information on that report either. Why they do not just give the reason is beyond me. But they did it - made me jump through hoops to check this report and everything "chex" out fine.

Same, Same

Posted by: |

Applied on 1/05/24. Followed instructions to the t. 800+ FICO score. Uploaded drivers license. House paid off. Application denied. Denial e-mail said decision based on info from Chex System AND the fact that they were unable to verify my info. I then downloaded Chex System's report on me, which contained absolutely NO derogatory info. E-mailed Poppy THREE times and asked them to provide an explanation as to why I was denied. NO RESPONSE in any manner whatsoever. If this is the way they act before they get my money, I shudder to think how they would act after getting my money.

What's wrong with you people?

Improper Security Features

Posted by: |

The website makes you transfer deposits before you can create an online access profile.
This process is not common. its usually register and create a profile but i believe Bread Savings does the same manner.
The DIFFERENCE is that the Customer Service rep and complete the registration process with you after they have received the funds.
Poppy Bank took my funds and LOCKED ME OUT. I was not able to visually verify.
The gentleman CS rep i called the first time said if the $$ did not transfer out of you bank then i have to wait till thats been verified. He said also a CS rep would call me 36 to 72 hours after his discussion. NO ONE CALLED.
so far I've talked to 3 CS rep without resolution.

Not Good, Hoped For Better Returns, Instead My Money Is Stuck

Posted by: |

They only allow transfers of $10,000. Based on a phone conversation they are supposed to allow one transfer a day, but the website only allows one transfer per week.

The person I got on their phone couldn't answer any questions or help with the transfer limit or give guidance as to how to make daily transfers work. That person submitted a ticket and I submitted a web ticket. Was told that someone would be back to me within 48 hours. A week later, no one has reached out.

Multiple Declines

Wife and I just got declined for onlie savings account because they couldnt verify us, despite us following the application instructions and uploading Licenses. 800+ credit, US Citizens, no debt, $4M net worth. My mother, same credentials, was also denied. All told, we would have deposited $700K. Their reps wouldnt even try to resolve. Not complaining as other banks will get our money but if I had to do over, I wouldnt have wasted my time.

External Transfer Issues Originating From My Bank

Posted by: |

Easy to open, talking with live humans is great, however, I have NOT been able to create external transfers originating from any of my banks. At first Poppy was showing they used Plaid for external transfers originating from Poppy but now I notice they are using the old 2 small amount deposits.

Is this happening to anyone else?

Great High-Yield Savings Account

I've never had a true high-yield savings account before coming to Poppy Bank. At my previous bank, the return on my savings account was only 0.01% which is nothing!
Since moving my savings over to Poppy, the competitive 5.50% interest rate makes a huge difference. It's so satisfying to log into the mobile banking app and see the monthly credit interest deposits made into my account. It motivates me to continue to add to my savings and definitely makes a dent in reaching my financial goals.
On top of that, when I've needed to go into a branch or call the bank, I'm always greeted with a smile and a helpful, knowledgeable, and friendly attitude. The customer service is exceptional and I know my money is in a good place.

Consistently High Rates And Great Customer Service

Forget those measly interest rates at other banks. Just opened a high-yield savings account with Poppy Bank and I'm finally seeing a real return on my hard-earned cash, and that's a game-changer for my financial goals.

Even better, every time I step into a branch, I'm greeted by a friendly face and genuine helpfulness. The staff isn't just robotically spitting out account details; they take the time to understand my needs and offer personalized advice. Whether it's navigating online banking or finding the right savings plan for my goals, they're always there with a smile and a solution.

Great Rate, Smooth Process!!!

I tried opening an account with Poppy Bank a couple years ago, but the process was clunky and the account couldn't be opened. Evidently, the bank overhauled the online account opening system, and it works much better now. It took me about 5 minutes to open and fund a new savings account at 5.5%.

Customer Service

Posted by: |

Opened an online account and had a user friendly experience. I am not tech savvy but it was a smooth and easy experience. Followed up with a phone call to confirm and the customer service was great.

Poppy Bank Does Not Care About Senior Citizens

Posted by: |

Poppy Bank said they would not take my parents home, but yet they are. They lied and said that they protect senior citizens. My mother recently had a stroke and they do not care. They are going to make my parents homeless after 38 years in their home so they could make a buck. Strongly advise never doing business with them. They are not an honest Bank!

Great Experience Opening Savings Account

Not sure what all the bad reviews are for PB is a Really Good bank to bank with they have Great rates on there savings & CD accounts 5%, went inside the branch in Roseville CA and had a wonderful experience customer service rep was Great explained Everything as well as the branch manager came over and introduced himself Great Guy!! I would recommend this bank to all of my friends and family!

Best Bank Ever

Posted by: |

Poppy Bank opened up at a Safeway grocery store near my job over 3 years ago. They have consistently had the best savings and CD rates over any bank I have used. I have banked at Bank of the West, US Bank, Chase and more. The current CD rates are at 4% for 6,9 or 12 months which is the best in my area in California. The rates are so good that you need an appointment to open an account at some of their branches because so many people were flocking to their bank to open an account. I also have a liquid savings account that pays 3%. All these great rates are awesome considering the stock and crypto markets going down. You will never lose you initial deposit with a savings or CD. Give the bank a try you will be happy. Service is always friendly and helpful.

Poor Service. Excessive Fees.

Posted by: |

Poor branch service, deteriorating. Non competitive interest rate.
Excessive fees. Quick to add extra charges.
Corporate office phone calls go to voicemail during regular hours.
Would be very cautious. There are better and safer choice.

No Online Application?

Posted by: |

Am I missing something? I don't see any link to open a new account online. If this is supposed to be an internet based bank, there is definitely a problem...

POOR SERVICE DO NOT DO BUSINESS W PB

First, Note that of the 4 prior reviews, 3 rated 1 star and 1 rated 4. I decided NEVER again to use PB. Here are some of the major reasons: 1) lack of support at the Santa Rosa corp. level related to not being able to print check, and they never followed up; 2) at the branch level - service also has been poor - a) the Branch manager gave me incorrect info about minimum balance to avoid monthly charges for my checking account; I had to correct him and he then agreed that there were NO monthly charges; b) I have been given incorrect info regarding FDIC coverage by staff at the branch; c) none of the 3 staff at the Corte Madera branch knew how to wire money and they had to call Santa Rosa; this took 40 minutes; d) based on repeated interactions, in my professional opinion Barbara at the Corte Madera branch provides poor customer service. She communicates in a rude manner and appears need basic training in customer interactions. Finally, the Corte Madera branch has new branch manages and staff frequently. Finally I get MUCH BETTER rates with Ally Bank or Synchrony Bank. AND, their service is 5 Star. For Real. Hope this review helps.

Savings Interest 1%

I have been Poppy Bank client for # of years. They advertise locally as a business bank, altho my savings & checking accounts are personal. My savings has been .5%, but when I went in to branch last week & asked if they were going to raise it- they did. It's now 1%.
Not sure if based on balance, but worth research, especially for those in area of branches.
I see comments about poor phone & online service. Branch service has always been A+. No problems with my online or app, altho they did lower max mobile deposits recently.

Not Worth The Frustration

Posted by: |

there's always a reason a Podunk bank offers an above average rate. The opening process for an account is tedious with Poppy asking for far more personal info than necessary and required by gov't regs. Just tried to open a second cd and got so frustrated I took my business elsewhere.

VERY Bad Service----NONE

Posted by: |

I called them 3 times and got no reply. You'd think they would at least call back and say they don't want to use our money. I even e mailed and got no reply.

Great Rate, But ...

Posted by: |

After approval process, verifying trial deposits and $ withdrawn from external bank, the bank cancelled my CD and redeposited the funds. No calls / no emails. Apparently bank overwhelmed and mgmt cancelled the online CD applications as of 12/30.
