UMB Bank Poor Customer Service

I have a 20-year record with UMB Bank with no customer service problems until they closed the branch across the street from my loft (Wewatta St). Apparently, they sent all of their rude, incompetent, inflexible, and lazy employees (from the manager to the tellers) to the Mountain States branch.

Here is a brief explanation for my 1-star review (only because there is not a 0-star option): I deposited a $10,000 check and the teller handed me a $1,000 receipt. When I brought it to her attention, she blamed the check reader—no apology for this error. Then, she put that same check on hold for 7 days, which cleared one day later. The manager had no logical explanation for why they wouldn't release the cleared funds other than "bank policy". I understand the need for security and verification, but with almost instantaneous ACH transfers, there is no justification for this policy other than using customers' funds to collect interest (which is probably legal, but highly unethical). My 20-year record with UMB, 819 credit score, and no overdrafts means absolutely nothing to them.

If you are reading this, you may be thinking about opening a UMB account. Please save yourself a lot of frustration and don't do it.

Worst Bank and customer service. Have called 11 times. Today called the lady hung up on me. They have been charging me a few every month 7 months since they took over my account. I have not received anything from them, not even a account number. Yet they charge me.
I asked if they were going to refund me for the last 7months. She said they could do 2 months of refunds.

They charge you for everything plus offer a whopping .001% interest. Wish my employer used Fidelity for HSA services. I will continue to push our HR dept. to change as these guys suck.

They Lost 9K Of My Money

I dont even know where to begin. They lost $9,000 in my account. I called customer service 7 times, only one rep was good Amber (thanks Amber!). All the rest of the reps were rude, and SO unhelpful. They couldnt find my account anywhere even though I have an account #. The new bank I originally transferred the funds to has nothing pending on their side which is not normal/concerning.

I'm currently speaking to a branch manager in hopes she can find something for me. Not looking good so far.

TERRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE

Don’t use this joke of a bank for balance transfers or any account if you want customer service.
A Supervisor didn’t offer to assist in anyway shape or form to expedite a payment that had taken 3 weeks to post only to find out on my own that the check had been returned damaged to UMB . She wouldn’t allow me to pay for an overnight check to be sent for this missing payment , this continued delay was causing my credit score to fall 13 points because my balance is over the 30% required to keep my score in check. Her comment on why no payment had been made?? Was that it hadn’t been 14 business days??? What did that matter when the check was returned to UMB? It has been 3 weeks .. and she’s a supervisor? How scary is that? Never will I use this joke of a bank again !

Horrible Customer Service

My HSA changed to this company and I tried to set up an account, but it told me that my account was locked due to to many attempts. (I only tried once). I called to talk to someone. 91 minute wait. I selected the call me back option and never got a call. HORRIBLE. Clearly they are not able to give support to their customer base.

UMB is a total scam bank, absolute racket! Horrible anti-consumer practices taking advantage of hard working citizens! My previous employer used them for an HSA and what a joke decision as they charge 3 bucks a month after you leave just to hold your money, like that doesn’t benefit them! They are double dipping at the expense of the consumer. 25 dollar charge just to escape them! Absurd! I had no opinion before, but I can promise you now everyone I know while know how horrible UMB bank is and they will never hold my money in any account ever again. Absolutely horrid bank that deserves to fail miserably and I wish the worst.

What A Disaster.

I was forced to use UMB b/c my former employer set up our HSA through them. They are so difficult and un-fit for the 21st century. I hope my review helps steer companies away from using them for their employees. I was trying to roll over funds to another HSA provider. They alerted me that I needed to liquidate my investments into my HSA account before the transfer can me made. Fine, that's reasonable. But while reviewing my account with me the customer support rep conveniently forgot to mention that I needed to turn off the auto-investment feature - which resulted in the funds being liquidated and transferred into my HSA account but then automatically getting transferred back to investments. Now I need to wait until the funds hit investments, get invested, only to need to manually request another liquidation & transfer. Lost about 2 weeks of my time. What a shitshow.

Worst Experience Ever

UMB is the WORST HSA provider ever had in my life.
They charge document fee $1.50 for sending a hard copy of statement, your have MANUALLY change your setting online.
They charge standalone fees of $5.5 per month once you leave your company.
They also charge $25 to close your HSA.
Plus once you are changing investments, they also charge $5.5 per trade for just buy and sell your investment.

You get nothing from UMB but a crazy amount of fees.

Awful Banking

I use to like this bank, now I hate it. I feel like they double charge me for stuff I’ve already paid for. Then when I call in about my account the only thing they do is review my transactions history, no route cause to the problem. Then once a month I will get a credit out the blue, then the credit goes away and my account is some how negative... To top it off I used they’re mobile direct deposit smh why did I do that, another horrible experience. They send me a email saying hey your deposit was received and approved so I go to check my account they only released $200 of my money!! Then told me I have to wait another day for the rest of my money. At this point I’m over this bank. I will be closing the accounts soon and moving to a different bank!!
