I entered everything to sign up for an account only to be presented with an agreement to indemnify the company, its board of directors, 3rd parties, etc, for actions by anyone for anything, without limit, regardless of reasonableness. With no limit, the personal liability could be in the millions or even billions. Where does one get such insurance and what is the cost? I don't think it exists so assume existing account holders decided to risk being wiped out.
Web experience and customer service rated low due to the following. When trying to sign up, the website kept presenting me with the message "Something went wrong, try again". Support was easily reached by phone but they advised they could not help because I didn't yet have an account (well yeah, that's the problem). I eventually figured it out on my own by experimenting with fictitious information. It turns out it didn't like my street address which had an apostrophe as is often the case in Hawaii. I solved by using an address without the apostrophe even though that made it a fake address.
I'm disappointed but just couldn't agree to their onerous terms.
I've been using the Upgrade Savings account for a year and have put my savings to work. The rates have kept going up and I've had a great experience with their online platform!
I love getting my paycheck early with Upgrade's early direct deposit! I also love the high interest that I am earning in my Performance Savings account. I look forward to that monthly email, where I see how much I've earned in the previous month. It's been a great experience so far and I will continue to bank with them for many years.
Beware: UPGRADE INC offers great rates on their savings accounts, but once you attempt to withdraw money, they will suspend your account. You will have no access to your money, and no one you call or email at Upgrade can assist. They can only say that you have to wait for an email that never comes. Find a reputable bank. Upgrade has very unethical business practices.
Froze my account February 2024 for suspicious activity. Suspended it for a month until I had to call them 4 times and the last time I called I told them I was moving banks so I need my money now! The next day they sent me a form to fill out. However, when I was filling out the form I checked my, at this point suspended, account; they took out almost 1400 dollars from my saving account from a deposit almost 9 months before the incident. Terrible bank, terrible customer service. I joined upgrade because of the high APY but it is not worth it! To add on top of everything when they suspended my account, took money out, and whatever else they did. They never contacted me once! I had to contact them and ask them what was going on and they never gave me a for sure straight answer. I have never left a review for anything before but when it comes to a bank that people are supposed to trust with the money I felt like I had to. There are plenty of banks with a little less APY that won’t screw you like upgrade.
Very BAD EXPERIENCE, trying to open up a Online Savings Account and it's a complete Circus. They want me to Scan my ID'S and require other information to be emailed into them for verification. After reading all of the Complaints & Reviews about this company and further research I found out that UPGRADE is NOT a REAL BANK at all. Save yourself the hassle and don't waste your time with UPGRADE. I been trying to apply for a Simple Online Savings Account & can't get a hold of any intelligent human that knows anything.
Very straightforward account, high APY, and love to see my return get posted at the end of each month. No complaints.
I opened an checking account with upgrade, setup my direct deposit with this company only for them to say they don’t have it, this company stole my direct deposit contacted my employer to verify my account and routing number was CORRECT!!! upgrade lied to me saying they did not receive my direct deposit, they stole it a bunch of thieves, do your research on this company before joining them!!! They are horrible horrible
They use Cross River Bank and if you look up their reviews you will see the truth of how they operate. They suspended my acct in Dec 2023 for suspicious activity. When I submitted all the verification of my transactions being legit they still kept my funds from my checking account. It has almost been 60 days and they have no update or information. They only say a "department" is reviewing my acct but there is no way to contact this "dept" or speak to anyone for an update. We have been evicted and there's still no update nor do they care. I have reported them to the FDIC and am working on a class action suit.
I would advise caution with this bank. As my credit score increased, they continually reduced my available credit, causing more harm to my credit score.
I recently took out a personal loan and tried to update my payment date as the website stated I could. I wanted to change my November due date from the 15th to the 24th. Not only did they take out my payment on the 15th, when I contacted customer service they informed me that there would also be a payment on November 24th and one in December also. This is not the way you should treat your customers when clearly there's been a mistake. Rather than try to resolve the issue they keep sending me canned answers when they clearly knew my intent. I will never use them again and recommend anyone to avoid them. Terrible customer service and business practices.
I use several products from this "bank" including a personal loan, vehicle refinance loan, Upgrade card (crazy rate, don't use!) and their "Rewards Checking". My checking account WAS used simply to transfer money from my primary bank account to this account for use in various securities trading accounts and an eBay account. I haven't used this account since March 2023. In April 2023, the account was "Suspended". No notice, no reason, no nothing. I called and was told that the department that flags accounts is "automated" and cannot be contacted directly. They would internally contact the department and an email would be sent to me concerning the reason for the suspension and next steps. Never got that email. Called again. Same response. Called again. Same response. So basically, they are holding my money hostage with no way of getting back. They are horrible and unprofessional. Stay away!
I really like the fact that they have no fees I have to worry about. I like how easy it is to look at the cash back rewards that are instantaneously awarded.
I recently opened a Rewards Checking and a Savings account with Upgrade. I called to see about adding a POD beneficiary and was told that they cannot do that. Also, they don't open joint accounts. I don't think that I will be keeping these accounts open for long.

Once you sign up the rate doesn't increase. Contacted customer service and they said you have to open a new account to get the new rate.
I opened a premier saving account a month or two ago. Back then the APY shown in account is 3.5%. Now, they advertise a new APY of 4.0%, but when I checked my account it is still 3.5%. I called them and asked them to update to the rate advertised. They asked me if I signed a "custodial agreement". I had no idea that the APY was not automatically updated to their advertised rate! This is virtually unheard of, based on my experience with other online banks. Eventually, they said they would submit a request to look into this matter. Never heard back from them. Needless to say, I transferred all my money out to another bank which has even better rates and automatically updates their APY. I would not recommend this bank, unless you want your APY to remain lower than their advertised rate.
trying to withdraw money for weeks now, and they keep giving excuses: website is down and please be patient, trying ACH from an external bank and I got a check return, calling their customer service and asking for outgoing wires, their excuses need to verify my funds when clearly money is there. Need to report to FDIC and my local attorney general office.
Update: now they block all my account access.
I opened a savings account with them and proceeded to link it via micro deposits to two external institutions and low and behold, a micro deposit was bounced, and the other bank charged me a fee, because these idiots rejected it claiming Reg D limits. Except for the reg D limits have been illegal since covid...
Yesterday morning I applied to open a new savings account, which was fairly simple. My application was rejected because of a credit freeze on the credit report @agency they use. They said they only do a soft pull to verify my identity. Why not give me that information before starting so I could have lifted it before application? I lifted the freeze immediately but they say I cannot even reapply until it is posted, usually as long as 30 days! Ridiculous! I even had a confirmation # from credit reporting company that it had been lifted.
850 Credit Score and they don't want my $500K!
