I very rarely write reviews of products or services because I'm not convinced a collection of anecdotal experiences constitutes an accurate assessment of the intrinsic quality of said product or services. However when such experiences happen repeatedly it no longer is a "one off " but a trend. Such is the case for VACU. Consequently in an environment with competing financial institutions that are striving to offer high quality products and services in an customer friendly environment I have decided it is time to move on.
The financial products available to members are not necessarily competitive and charges for services mirror those of commercial banks.
There is a general lack of knowledge and level of training among the current employees that results in transmission of inaccurate and at times unhelpful information.
The lack of attention to customer service creates a number of barriers to communication and convenient seamless to member's own accounts.
The concept of a member owned credit union is good but there is nothing that I have found that distinguishes this from the array of brick and mortar or cyberspace financial institutions encountered every day. In fact in many cases they tend to be a lot more customer friendly and easier to navigate.
The VACU is notorious for Excessive NSF Fees. They are very practiced in the art of extorsion when it comes to these fees. The reason that you do not read about numerous law suits regarding excessive NSF Fees (although there are quite a few out there) is because they settle most of these out of court. Of course they have a large body of high priced corporate lawyers that could challenge and most likely win many, if not most of these law suits. However the mere fact that a case goes to court will tarnish their reputation. They are afraid the bad reputation will thwart new business/suckers. Therefore VACU continues to charge excessive illegal NSF Fees, then when you threaten to take them to court they simply offer a large amount of money to settle. Most accept the bribe as they know that if they go to court there is a very good chance they may see nothing at all. The best thing to do is to stay away from this bank altogether. Virginia Credit Union is an extremely shady organization and they do not operate with the legalities and norms that a professional organization of this stature should.
I have been a member of VACU for over 20 years and my experiences with the VACU as it relates to the institution's deposit accounts (Savings and Checking) has truly been spectacular!!! The service, products, and customer service are exceptional and in a league of their own. Opening a regular checking account is free and requires no minimum balance. Opening of a savings account only requires $5.00 and there is no monthly maintenance fee nor service charge fee which allows me to save even more. Every time I call or even visit the location the clerks and customer service agents are friendly, professional, and always willing to help. VACU is the best credit union of all time and I would recommend them to everyone. A++++ service!
My experience with Virginia Credit Union has been nothing but great. They have mobile deposit for my checks and an app for me to move money on the go. I can link all of my accounts and if I ever have an issue they have a number that I can call to get someone on the phone right away. This happened to me before and I was able to call them and someone answered and addressed my concerns in less than 5 minutes! I am allowed to withdraw money anywhere in the world at an ATM and they even credit certain ATM charges back. Every time I go to the local branch the tellers are nothing but friendly and answer any questions that I have. They have many branches around town making it easy for me to conduct my banking needs on the go. I would highly recommend Virginia Credit Union to anyone I know.
As a member of Virginia Credit for over 15 years now, I can say how wonderful their service is. Although I opened the account when I lived in VA, I moved out of state many years ago, but kept my accounts. Having to make deposits from far away, they have made this process so smooth. Not only have they provided me with special envelopes for mailing my deposits, they have been very courteous any time I have contacted them to verify my deposits. I was worried that it would take long for my deposits to be credited, but within a few days (to account for mailing) they were posted and available. I love how easy the envelope is -it contains a tear away deposit slip so that all I have to do is fill out that little part and place all inside the envelope. The envelope is already addressed for the correct department. Virginia Credit Union definitely knows how to take extra measures to save their customers some time and stress.
My experiences with Virginia Credit Union are not the best experiences. I feel like I am very limited when it comes to banking with Virginia Credit Union. I am originally from south Georgia so when I go home to visit my family, I have trouble with my credit union account. I have been locked out of my account on multiple occasions. The reason that I get locked out of my account is because I use my card in multiple states on my driving commute to Georgia. The bank looked at this activity as being suspicious. Needless to say I had to wait until a week day to contact the bank and complain about being locked out. i would not recommend this bank to anyone who travels a lot because you will run into some trouble when using your account. It would be better to withdraw the money that you will need.
There are no minimums for the regular checking account. That is something you won't see at a bank. Even other credit unions have some sort of minimum like five dollars but not Virginia Credit Union. This means if I am having a difficult month I won't be penalized for draining my account down to zero.
Also, the ATM fees are nearly non existent. They will reimburse you up to 8 dollars for a month if you get your money from a non VACU ATM. If you get it from an authorized ATM then it's free always. They also have competitive products and are reasonably located for me.
I ask for help on my mortgage and only after I got behind did I get any help and by then me credit rateing was shot now I have no credit and my car ins went up as well if I had goting help when I ask for my credit would not be hurt
