The SIU Credit Union is great. They have locations that are convenient and an ATM network that allows fee free transactions across the country. The staff in each of the locations has always been friendly and courteous every time I have been there. They have a great rewards program that gives you points every time you use your debit card (among other things) so it is super easy to rack up points. they have many options for saving, loan options and who doesn't love free checking! I do typically have to wait a while in the drive in thru for even the simplest transactions. But overall it is a place I really enjoy banking with.
Banking with SIU Credit Union is a great experience. The staff are always polite and helpful. They quickly answer any questions I might have. If they do not know they answer, they find someone on the office who can help me. The CU has great rates and I feel like they always look out for their customers. I truly enjoy being a credit union member.
I've had 4 credit union experiences, and SIU is the most archaic of all.
1. they only process mobile deposits one day a week.
2. Goverment checks...i.e. Soc. Sec. are not credited the day of receipt.
3. Overdraft charges, even though they will take funds from your savings to cover the difference, they will still charge you a fee.
4. Not open on weekends.
They are behind the times... this is 2023... you would think they would get with it.
NONE of the other Credit unions I had/have do not charge you for the overdraft.... and then they send you a letter threatening you with collections if you cannot settle the overdraft... for a whole $20.
The branch manager, Kyle Goss, at the Marion office is very rude and, in my opinion, does not adequately train his employees. The latest example is that I sat for one hour while one of his employees called Carbondale three times to figure out how to do a simple CD renewal. When I finally questioned her, Mr. Goss told me that they did not wish to do business with me any longer. I had been a customer of SIU Credit Union
for many years. I then asked him for my money back since he didn't want to do business with me, and he then stated that penalties might apply for an early withdrawal. Needless to say, I do not intend to deal with SIU Credit Union again.
them again once I get my money back.
