Air Force Federal Credit Union was established in 1952 by Airmen volunteers as Lackland Federal Credit Union. Today, it is headquartered in San Antonio, TX, and its funds are insured by the National Credit Union Administration.

Air Force FCU provides a range of personal deposit accounts to its members, including checking accounts, savings accounts, money market accounts, Certificates of Deposit (CDs), and Individual Retirement Accounts (IRAs). Customers can securely and conveniently access their funds via online and mobile banking.

The credit union requires a basic savings account for membership, and its checking accounts include a product option for those with poor credit history. Money market accounts yield tiered interest rates, based upon the account balance. CD terms range from 6 months to 7 years, and CD funds may be used as collateral for certain loans. IRA options include Traditional, Roth, and Coverdell ESA products.

In addition to offering payroll and merchant payment processing services to its business clients, Air Force FCU also offers business checking accounts.

Veterans And Active Duty Beware!

Posted by: |

I have been with this credit union, previously known as Air Force Federal Credit Union, for over 40 years. My family and I have about $100,000 in our accounts. Since Soarion has taken over I have been having several problems. Their contact center refuses to address my issues and concerns, specifically with their new debit cards. Just about every time we use our cards they are denied. Yesterday, I spoke with a supervisor, Michael, from their contact center who refused to help me get this issue resolved. He stated that all I had to do was contact their service center and they would reverse to declination. So, his answer to the problem was to inconvenience me and all the people waiting in line behind me and the store employees. To make it worse, he tried lying to me about the debit card issue until I told him I had already spoke with one of his contact personnel a couple of weeks prior and she told me they are having a large amount of fraud with the new cards. He finally admitted the problem but said nothing could be done about it. I requested information so I could contact the executive staff responsible for the service center and inform them of the issue. He said “no.” He also stated that he was the end of the line and my issue was not able to be escalated past him. When I told him that I was a veteran and AFFCU was always there for me with my unique military issues, when I was stationed all over the world, he became unprofessional and indicated that that was not his concern and nothing could be done to help me.

I was shocked by his inaction and his negative attitude. I cannot believe the audacity of a supervisor to refuse to help me. I ask him if he knew what a “chain of command is.” He stated that he was never in the military and that it was irrelevant at Soarion Credit Union.

Soarion Credit Union does not care about its members and taking care of members associated with the military is not their concern or priority. I will be closing all of my accounts as soon as possible. If you are a veteran or a active duty service member, I recommend you use another banking option.

Very Bad Experience

Posted by: |

It took 5 days and multiple phone calls to open a CD. It was the most tedious and aggravating CD buying experience I've ever had - and I have opened a LOT of CDs. And had I not kept checking up and prodding them it might never have been completed and my nest egg would have sat in my base member account earning .05% - not even the scant .5% many other low-paying banks still offer in a time when other banks are paying 4.00% on money market accounts and 5%+ on CDs.

The third time I called Soarion to try and fix this, I spoke to Gerard, ex.5573. He said he would send my request to the CD dept. I explained that this is what I was told two times previously but it was never done. I requested that because of the previous two mistakes the request be expedited, preferably during this phone call. He said that this couldn't be done and it could take another 2-3 business days. He refused to get the CD dept. to expedite the request. Since there had already been two attempts to correct the problem, that was a very reasonable request.

I asked to talk to a supervisor but Gerard claimed he was the head of the department and refused to let me talk with anyone else. When I pressed him for a means to contact somebody else about my problem all he would do was give me the member services email address.
