UMassFive College Federal Credit Union is headquartered in Hadley and is the 21st largest credit union in the state of Massachusetts. It is also the 599th largest credit union in the nation. It was established in 1967 and as of December of 2024, it had grown to 124 employees and 50,008 members at 6 locations. UMassFive College Federal Credit Union has a B health rating.

Membership is open to employees and students of the University of Massachusetts system, Amherst College, Hampshire College, Mount Holyoke College, and Smith College and select employee groups.

I’ve been with UMassfive for 20 years. Back in the day they were a great straight forward bank. Since they’ve grown they now do their business in ways reminiscent of TD Bank, all the things TD Bank got in trouble for and has class action lawsuits against. They hold money from well know sources like the state pending for longer then needed times, most likely to earn interest on it for the bank before you are able to use it. They also hold things pending when your account gets low, then releases them to put you into the negative so they can make $32 in overdraft fees on you. They seem more into making money for their big owners than they do for helping the little working class people. Practices like these should be watched and controlled. It feels like they purposely are trying to steal money when the see fit.
