A Better Option, And Not For Profit

Could not be more pleased with the University of Illinois Credit Union.  After ten years with Busey I became frustrated with the mergers and their service levels have decreased in my opinion.  I think because their staff are so woried about what will happen to them and if they they are keeping their jobs.

The credit union has been very helpful, I was able to refinance both my car loans and my mortgage.  Good service, friendly but professional people.  They also have a orange visa card that has the University logo on it that has a low rate.  And I was approved for one of those too, but I don't really carry a balance so I will try their rewards program.

Good place, hope they keep growing.

Great for savings, not banking.

I currently hold a savings account at University of Illinois credit union. I do like how friendly the front staff is, however, I have issues with the credit union in general. The first issue I have is the website is not very user friendly. For example, one day I wanted to transfer funds from my chase to the credit union, but could not do it using their website. The bank also does not give access to an ATM card, so I am stuck on weekends without access to cash. I will say they have lower fees than my chase account, that is why I have a savings account with them. The staff is friendlier, and willing to go out of their way to figure out workarounds. It is a great account to just save money, but not to use as a bank, as it is not as recognized as bigger banks. On the one vacation I took out of state, I did get my card declined due to artificial limits they put on it. Due to being out of state they thought it was fraud, they didn't contact me till after I got back. This alone makes me just use them as a savings account only.

Run Away From Them!!!

If you are an UIUC international student, please, read that CAREFULLY.
DO NOT open an account at the U of I credit union. I know that it seems to be very convenient to open your account there, since they have a branch on campus, but you should rather take the time to open an account elsewhere in town. Down the road, you will spare yourself several headaches with them.
They are absolutely not professional nor qualified. If you are an international student you WILL struggle to deal with them once abroad.
They make an incredible amount of mistakes that ends up costing money to customers. No traceability... and worst than everything, when something wrong happens, they team up to cover up and hide the mistake!!!! They even create narratives to cope with their lack of care, and you will never get your rights with them. They do operations on the customer's account without taking his/her consent. They smile, and even will bullshit you, but if an issue happens you get screwed. Here is ONE of the bad things that happened to me: Every month I manually transfer money from my savings to my credit card account to pay back my credit debt ( about $25 due monthly).Recently, I noticed that money had been transfered from my saving account ,without my consent, to my credit card account . When I complained about that, I had to deal alternatively which 2 incompetent employees before the manager of the branch reached out to me and put up a narrative to excuse the " mistake" ( she of course did not call it so), and told me the money would be transfered back to my saving account. A month later... still no money transfered back. I complained again... again she had an explaination, but this time the following day... my money was on my account! But... after that ,I realised at the time I had to make my monthly payment for my debt, that my monthly payment due for the credit card was higher for $25 due to about $70, and the deadline to make the payment had been changed...
At this point, I do not know what I am paying exactly!
Also, renewing a bank card if you are abroad or transfering money is ridiculously complicated...
I have lived in different countries, and U of I credit union ( or whatever they call it ) is, by far, offering the worst services.
Please, if you are an international student take my words into account before running to their office on campus...

Not A Helpful Or Caring Institution

I recently have been forced into a relationship with U of I CCU by the death of my aunt as I am her executor and she was a member. Though I have all the necessary documentation establishing my control over her finances, it has taken multiple phone calls to do to do this, and employees have been outright unhelpful in giving out any information over the phone though I live out of state. My initial contact with the customer service personnel was not only terse and unfeeling toward a customer dealing with a family death, but also a clear indication that they did not even know what paperwork to ask for in the situation. I may end up having to pay my attorney to get information from them that other businesses willingly have supplied as soon as I established my identity as the new holder of the account.

The Devil Behind The Smile

The tellers are friendly and helpful.  But if you have over draft or collections issues with this organization you will be amazed at how badly they treat their own members (and they are a credit union).  Their managment of these situations is amazingly bad.
