I have been a Widget Financial customer for a couple months now and it's been a pretty good experience overall.
I have two savings accounts, Getcash card, and will be opening up a lockdown account to hold my savings for a 6-month term. This credit union has been good to me and there is a good branch footprint as well as ATM footprint in Erie. As someone who is in ChexSystems and have a poor banking history they offered me there Getcash prepaid card and it's been a good card except for some restrictions that are a pain to deal with but overall, a good card to use for online and in-store purchases. I do highly recommend them for a credit union because customer service has been great, mobile app and website is great, and they have great products to fit your banking needs no matter where you are in your financial life.
I had always been a bank customer until my co workers were talking about all the benefits of a credit union so I looked into it and I set up an appointment to talk with the credit union assistant manager about transferring my accounts to them and setting up a new savings account and investing more into our retirements. Not only did they help me transfer everything over fee free they also gave me a cash bonus for setting up our checking account and free checks. The interest rates were so amazing we also took out a personal loan to pay off some debt we had. Overall it was a wonderful stress free experience I also have been able to email them whenever I need anything or have a question. They also have a very convenient mobile app!!
I love the customer service and am able to get my questions answered very easily. The bank has every now and then sessions to the local community to tell about different things every person should know about banking and about anything you really need to know about money. I once went into the bank and had an employee go above and beyond the duty to help me with a problem I was having with my money. I have had satisfactory experience having my accounts with the bank. With the accounts there, you can choose between a checking, savings, IRA, retirement, etc. Those are different accounts you can choose from. You can check you account online or in person. Any employee is happy to help you regardless of what is going on.
My experience at Widget Financial was a good one, but honestly it is just your typical average bank. The staff is always kind and courteous, they really do try their hardest to assist you with whatever it is that you may need. However, I think this bank or organization is more geared toward the future and kind of leaves the older generations in the dust. I consider my interactions with them as really good, but I am pretty tech savvy and have no problems checking my bank information on my mobile phone. So in that aspect, you will not get any complaints from me, but it makes me think about my grandmother. A woman who thinks her identity can be stolen by someone having access to her name. How do they fare when all is said and done? Ultimately, it probably does not matter as their are many banks in my city that the older generation can take advantage of.
Im may of this year tried to apply for a credit consolidation loan only to be told that i must have a combine balance of over a thousand dollars in my account and it could be from any source. now only to be told something different by to many customer service people that tells you different things feel like this bank only wants your money to make them look good they dont help you in any way so i wouldnt do any banking with them try others
I had a saving account that I had forgotten about. It exceeded the Widget time-line. By the time that I realized that I needed to close the account to stop the fees, I had incurred $19.00 in service charges. Since I only received quarterly statements, I was charged $5.00 per month in October relating to activity in July, August and September. I sent in a letter to close the account (I moved out of the area). When I asked for consideration on the very high fees ($19.00 on $82.00 of deposits) I was told to read the 'fine print' on fees on the web-site. No true consideration was given. I did nothing 'wrong' (no over-draws, use of a foreign ATM, etc.) and yet 25% of my account was absorbed by fees.
I would warn all persons who are considering to open an account, rethink your choice. They are trying to generate 'fee income' rather than servicing their customer's banking needs.
I tried to open an account with them and transferred $525 as my opening deposit. The money was transferred to them right away, but the next day I got an email from them saying they could not open the account for me. I politely asked them to return the $525 to me. They said that they would. A week later, I still haven't received the check in the mail, so I got a hold of them and found that they never processed the refund of the $525. I asked them to transfer back the $525 via ACH and was told, "We have never done that before and do not know if we can do that." ARE YOU KIDDING ME??? you are a bank and you don't know how to perform an ACH transaction???
Anyways, this bank makes it so easy to receive funds but impossible for you to get a refund. Should avoid this bank at all cost.
