4.25% 12-Month CD at a Multi-State Bank (Omni National)

POSTED ON BY

Update 3/27/09: The bank was closed by regulators. Refer to this post for more details.

Omni National Bank is offering a 4.25% APY 12-month CD. Their rate table also shows a few other competitive CD rates including a 3.60% APY 6-month CD, a 4.50% APY 36-month CD and a 4.90% APY 60-month CD. The minimum deposit is $5,000. These are also available in an IRA. Under the rate table, it states that rates are valid for new deposit customers in NC, GA, FL, AL and IL only.

My last post on this bank was in January when they were offering a 5% 36-month CD. They were also offering a 5.10% APY on its Platinum Money Market Account for balances over $25,000. They're no longer listing rates on their website for this money market account.

It appears a branch visit may be required to open an account. Please check with the bank for the full details. Branches are located in several cities in Georgia, North Carolina, Alabama, Florida, Illinois and Texas. The bank is a member FDIC (Certificate # 22238). The bank doesn't appear to have the best financial health. From September to December 2007 data, their star rating has gone down from 2 stars to 1 star at Bankrate.com. Omni National Bank also has a 1 star rating (troubled) at BauerFinancial based on 3/31/08 data.

Thanks to the reader who mentioned this one-year CD in the Finding the Best Deals post.
