Top CD Rates at GECU in El Paso Texas - Local Only
Some areas of the country are good spots for savers looking for CDs. El Paso in far west Texas is one such location. I reported on one El Paso credit union in January which offers top CD rates, and I just came across another one with even higher CD rates. It's GECU, and the credit union is offering several very competitive CD and IRA CD rates. Some of the best include a 3.30% APY 5-year CD, a 2.53% APY 30-month CD and a 1.66% APY 18-month CD. Minimum deposit is $1,000. The IRA CD rates and CD rates for those 60 and over are 15 basis points higher. The early withdrawal penalty for terms over 12 months is 180 days of interest (whether earned or not). These rates are listed in the credit union's rates page as of 5/10/2011.
Credit union membership is open to those who live or work in the El Paso County or in Doña Ana County not more than 25 miles from the credit union's 1500 North Resler office. Please refer to the credit union's membership page for the full details. Membership requires a minimum balance of $20 in the savings account.
The credit union has an overall health score at DepositAccounts.com of 4 stars (out of 5) with a Texas Ratio of 13.24% (above average) based on December 2010 data. Please refer to our financial overview of GECU for more details. The credit union is federally insured by the NCUA (Charter # 60058).
