Small Quantity Check (25) Order

Does any one know where to go to order few checks (25 or so)? All the places I see, the minumum order is for 150-200 checks costing $10.95 or more (+ shipping). I am sure many of you are probably in the same boat with rewards checking and dont need a whole lot of checks except when you need to move money from one bank to other as lot of these reward checking acocunt do not offer free/starter checks.

Any good deal ($2 or so) for 25 checks will be appreciated. Thanks

DD:

Two cases that checks are very useful are:

1. The transfer destination bank is local,

2. The destination is a credit union that belongs to "Shared Branch."

I am very sensitve to use any banks as an ACH hub these days due to large sum at issue as well as the potential unexpected delays (e.g., with Ally new ACH system).  Maybe Alliant is still good as a hub, but I hate to open more accounts (unnecessarily) at this time, especially with hard pulls.

I do not mind the check hold since the transferred fund is here to stay anyway.  There is usually 1-2 days overlap with the check method that one can double dip.

At one time I need to transfer out from a total of fifteen accounts (each with $25K) rapidly, checks came in real handy for such large multiple transfers to a credit union via Shared Branch.  Sometimes FedEx those checks is also an excellent way to ensure next-day arrival reliably.

Thus I never forget to request free starter checks at the opening fo RCAs.  If not possible, I always purchase $5 worth of checks (50-75) to prepare for rate-hopping.

I just went to Beacon Federal here in Mass (Chelmsford) today to deposit four (free) large checks from Randolph Bank without any delays if ACH hub is employed:D

Just thought of another reason to have checks. I just wrote a check to fund another account. It takes 3 days to get to that credit union by mail. The same time as it takes for a transfer on line. I figured in the cost of the stamp and it stiill is cheaper to send by mail while helping the post office employees. Might as well get interest from the sending account until the check reaches its destination. When an on line transfer is done I lose the 3 days of interest, and while sending by mail I earn interest until the checks is returned to the sending bank. When sending a check by mail always sign your name and put "deposit only to account ending in XXXX" and then put the last 4 numbers of your account on that check.
Sorry, but I don't trust the USPS - too many (3) checks got lost or even stolen and then altered and cashed. No way am I to mail checks around that are more than 50 bucks!

Let us know if you find any.  To my knowledge/effort, there is none.

Carousel and Supervaluechecks are two that run about $5 (including shipping/handling) for around 50-75 checks last time I searched.

The best is to request free starter checks from a nice CSR or a nice bank:-)

Geez! Who uses checks in this day and age?! Transfer between banks? I wouldn't use checks, no way! Use a hub account such as Ally, WTDirect or whatever.

I also suggest Carousel.  Look for 25% - 50% off coupons online.

I had a 30% off dated 12/07, and a B1G1 dated 12/16.

You might also ask your bank if they can print you some checks in the branch (something like 4 per sheet).

Both Nara Bank and Bank of the West have done this, without charge or fuss.

If one writes "For Deposit Only" at the back of the check and pay to the order of "Self", I am not clear how people can steal it, alter it, and cash it.  But yes, the routing number/account number is valuable to protect against future "attacks."  That may rule out another transfer mechanism for me, thanks:D

When I needed checks for accounts that did not give free checks I ordered them thru the Sunday paper. You can get from 140 to 200 for about $5 to $6. If you watch you can even get free shipping. I have done this for many years. To darkdreamer4u---- How do you pay property taxes? In Michigan when we pay our property taxes, or pay for a drivers license, a license plate etc with a debit or credit card they charge a fee. I am too frugal to pay any kind of fee that I don't have to.  I still use checks for things that I want a paper trail for. I even buy duplicates for $1 more.

To rosie43,

That is exactly what I am doing.  Checks saves you lot of money in interest (and actually you can double dip) as you will lose interest if you do online transfer.  This is extremely useful if you are moving large sum of money from one bank to other for better interest rate.  I even mail some of these checks to location where I opened up some accounts as national rewards checking (although I worry about losing these checks in the mail)

Some reward checking a/c gave me some starter checks (which is getting finished) but others simply would not give any when I opened up even after asking (e.g. West Bank Iowa)

As for accruing interest: some bank will give you interest as soon as they deposit, others will not give interest until fund becomes available (example: West bank Iowa)

The issue is that I don't want to order so many checks (150-200) even if it was cheaper as not only I do not need it but also you have to store it and occupies space (onece you have multiple accounts - it might need a full drawer).  For this reason, I would rather get only 25 checks (or even 10 would be fine) at a time.

In my case, they must have stolen my WF check out of the mailbox (the blue public ones). Then used household chemicals to erase my writing and then put their own numbers, etc. Of course I closed that acct. right away once I found out about the theft/fraud and I had my carbon copy to prove that I didn't authorize the check in this way.

I remember years ago probably in the 60's when credit unions paid interest if you had money in by the 10th of the month they would pay from the first of the month. We wrote checks from our bank that paid from day in until day out and tried to time the check to get to the credit union by the tenth (it was on the coast) and it would take a week or so for that check to be deducted from our bank. Then just before the end of the month we would write a check from the credit union to the bank and start all over again adding any amount we had saved during the month. If I remember correctly the funds had to be in the account at the end of the month for the credit union to pay the interest for the month.
