Best And Safest Way To Return An Original Signed And Notorized CD Back To Out Of Town Bank To Close At Maturity?

Five years ago we purchased a CD from an out of town bank which must have the Original signed and notorized sent back to them in order to close it at Maturity and get a check. We cannot drive back and return it in person now.

Can any DA member share with me if they had any CDs bought out of town under these conditions? If so, what did you find was the best and safest method to get the CD back to the bank in time (before grace period ends)? I am considering mailing it Certified, Return Receipt so that I can track and have proof it was mailed.. Are there any problems with this method that I should be aware of? Thanks so much for any information or advice you can share.

I want to get the funds back as soon as possible so that I can put it in a local Cd.

You can also add on insurance to that, but it will cost some money.

Personally, I would not have taken a CD with that requirement.

If it's just paperwork, a USPS Priority Flat Rate envelope includes tracking for $6.70 total including the postage, ship it today, normal delivery time would be Saturday.

Thanks folks. I have used the USPS Priority for other items but was told by post office that Certified gets special attention and Priority can take longer than 2 days depending on factors with post office I also would have to pay for a signature confirmation or something to prove proof of receipt if I go with Priority. It was my first choice, tho. Thanks.

BTW, no one informed us at purchase about "Original" must be signed and returned policy. I will never do that again.

I am not sure if Navy CR U gets a special rate but the charge was just over $5 for Fed Ex overnight from Virginia to Florida. I like that you can track it and you can see what time and who signed for it and print it out. I was able to get the tracking number from Navy.

That's a special rate for FedEx. I knew that, so I just checked, and for an individual, one-time mailing, no contract account, the price is about $10 just to mail it today (Thursday) and it arrive next Tuesday.

At the post office, their 2-day flat rate service for a 12.5 x 9.5 envelope would cost $would cost $6.70. But for overnight, it would be $24.70. To require a signature for either, it is an extra $6.10.
