Many deals are only available if you live/work/etc within a specific state or even county. What happens if you move away? Anyone have any experience with this?

Test3, if you join a credit union, the general rule is "once a member, always a member". For banks with geographic limitations, it gets trickier. For example, both my Mom and our trust had accounts at NBKC in Leawood, Kansas, for years. Due to some regulatory issues, NBKC advised me that it could no longer accept new, out-of-area accounts, even though (through the Trust) I was an existing customer. So, the short answer is, "it varies" (at least as to banks).
