Is There Any Way To Have A Credit Union Request A NON-IRA Transfer For You From Another Bank Or Credit Union When You Are Out Of The Country And Can't Handle It Yourself

I want to take advantage of a good rate at Institution A but will be out of the US when my CD matures at Institution B. Is there any way I can set up the CD at Inst. A and have them request the money from Inst. B at maturity (similar to what you do in a trustee to trustee IRA transfer) ?

Its going to depend on the institutions. You will have to ask. I expect you would need to give a precise number for the amount to transfer. The main question is whether they can set the transfer for a future date.

They probably would need to set the transfer to your savings or checking, and then transfer over tot he CD. So, they would need full instructions.

But you alternately might be able to do it online from overseas, although some bank Websites might detect you are accessing from out of the county and block you.

There are all kinds of details, but in the end, it will be whether the bank will set up a future transfer to do it.
