I know that most are available online. Does the IRS mandate that they be snail mailed?

I have an account that said if I had requested estatements that they could require you to download it from site. They would send a paper 1099 for $5

Mailing a paper copy of 1099s is definitely not required. Looking back at last year, I had three 1099s that were download-only. The only way to be sure you receive paper 1099s is to not sign up for e-statements with that company. If you have given permission to receive documents electronically, they can send your 1099 electronically-only too - although some will still voluntarily send that one document in paper format even to electronic-only statement people. You will be charged a monthly fee for paper statements with some companies, but it is still free at others. Also note that there are some companies that deny access to online statement/1099 downloads if you haven't agreed to turn off paper statements (I hate that).

I sure hope I did not inadvertently understate my interest income last year. I don't think I did but will pay extra attention this year. I think pretty much all sent paper too.

Do not know if it is a mandate that it be mailed but it should be a choice, especially for widows or widowers and for the families that only one person takes care of family finances.

I have one credit union that puts the 1099 on the last page of the monthly statement and I have
it by Jan 10th. I wish everyone did it that way.

Have received in the mail my end of year stuff from the RMD and Roth conversion, but nothing from the pension, stock and SS yet.

NASA are online only for me I guess...

Great news! Because you made the smart decision to enroll in eStatements, your 2018 tax documents are now available in eBranch. To view them, visit nasafcu.com, log in to eBranch, and click on the "Statements" tab.

Please note, you will not receive any of your tax documents via the mail unless you are issued a 1098 first mortgage document.

very, very slow to load. 3 minutes to get the page. And at least 3 more to open the 1099.
