Looking For Easy Online Cd Management

With Ally and Penfed you can easily change CD terms at maturity or send the cash into a savings or checking account without calling a CSR. You can also change whether the interest is added to the CD or deposited into an account even after the CD has been opened. --I'd like to find another bank that allows that and has decent rates.

Also would be great if they didn't dig through the internet for verification questions. -My Equifax verification questions are screwed up and I don't want to deal with something like that from a bank! :(

By the way, PenFed lowered rates again.

I'm open to new bank suggestions, too.

I've only used 3 online banks / credit unions, and found all three to have very user-friendly websites, an easy account mamagement page, and good customer service. PenFed, Purepoint Financial, and MySavingsDirect.com (for savings).

I don't know if any did an in-depth credit check, or not. I joined online; No issues or problems. (And yes, Equifax totally sucks.)

Everybody will ask you Equifax, Experian, or LexisNexis-based identity verification questions, unless you go to a local bank to open the account in person. You need to get the invalid information cleared up in your reports, or you will be unable to do an increasing amount of things requiring verification questions that you might need to do in the future. And you might be getting unanswerable questions because your credit history could have gotten cross-linked with someone else's, which can be a huge problem: https://www.bogleheads.org/forum/viewtopic.php?t=120578#p1764876

Many of the financial websites have articles about Equifax, and what a huge mess it can be in dealing with them. Their phone customer service center is apparently located in India.

Why is it so easy at some online banks & CU's to open a cd or get a credit card, while at others it's a huge hassle? The worst and longest application mess I ever went through, was with Mountain America. I finally gave up. Other places were a breeze.

Re: Mountain America comment
It is always interesting to read about individual experiences at different credit unions.
This is another example. I recently opened online a new account, including an IRA which required a transfer of assets from another credit union for funding. I had a wonderful experience working with Grace K. at Mountain America. She facilitated the whole process to the point that I felt I was her only client. I have nothing but good feelings about Mountain America, which is why I am replying to your comment. But everyone has his/her own situation to deal with. Possibly your situation was more complex or unusual compared to mine.  BTW my horror story involves Teachers FCU.  But maybe it is a perfect fit for others.

I know I should try to get the verification questions straightened out... Just not looking forward to it.

HighYield-- Yikes. Penfed's rates really don't look very good anymore. -They will raise them, but not in time for the 2 cds I've got coming due this month.

I did a rebate once and wanted to do it again. My sister was not going to do it and said I could use her address. This was about 15 years ago. When these site ask if I have ever lived at any of these addresses her address also comes up. Amazing that this was the only time I used her address and it was for a rebate and it comes up on my permanent record.

Another nod for PurePoint's new No-Penalty CD. Great interest rate, quick transfers, and easy to modify where the interest goes.
