Ally Missing Billpayment

I sent a neighbor $50 via ally billpay. He never got it. I disputed it.

Got an email today that they want me to register to open whatever the heck they sent me.

Of course, they take 2-3 days to answer emails, chat has a long wait and by phone too. And when you do call it takes 4 minutes of security questions.

It smacks of identity theft to me.

Ally has secure mail but I have to register for cisco registered envelope service??

Next time write your neighbor a check?

Apparently its legit. What a pain to create a new username, password & 3 secret questions just to open a PDF file.

Anyway, a lousy $50 billpay was someone stolen and deposited or cash at a local bank but it was not my neighbor to whom it was addressed.

A huge pain because its a 10 minute process to call ally & even let them know. Hold, hold, hold. huge inefficiencies. Its no wonder I have less than $300 on deposit with them.

So this was sent by Ally mailing a check to the neighbor, and the check got misappropriated? Maybe just get cash from a free ATM next time?

Yes, because rather than the convenience of paying bills at my computer, I want to drive 4 miles to get cash from an ATM. Wait, I don't carry and ATM card because I never use cash.

Sorry, that was sarcasm. 45 minutes on hold at ally today accomplishing nothing has frustrated me.

Aren't you to use Zelle for person to person.
And I wouldn't use it because of too many bad tales.
Not to mention foul ups by Ally during site up grades

willy - Sure, it's obviously been so much more convenient to risk spending hours dealing with this kind of service when a check gets lost/misused. It seems like you're just clicking a few buttons on a website, but when physical processes going through a lot of other hands and traveling across the country get involved, there's a lot more opportunity for things to go wrong than the old-fashioned way of handing the money directly to the person who was right next door to you the whole time.

Ricochet - I was going to mention Zelle as a preferable way to send money in situations like this, but there have been quite a few complaints about Zelle transactions going awry with little recourse, too. There are other electronic transfer options too, outside one's bank, but the neighbor may not be signed up with them already and may not want to bother to.

12+ straight bill payments every year or so without a bill pay going missing.

Not "hours".

I have read bad things about Zelle too.

Its a curiosity thing for me. HOW can a 3rd party cash a check made out to someone else at a major bank?

If the chances are 1/13, that means there is a 92% chance my next billpay to him gets delivered without issue.

Ann0 , Believe me, I am advising not to use Zelle. Agree with your comment on it.
But it does seem like a lot of FIs are leaning into it,even Ally.
On top of that, everything is going App for cellphone banking. Wont go near that.
Also Phone Apps forced to load as updates to websites buggers up my gear.
