I closed a checking account at credit union in Maryland. They said they will deduct a fee and mail me check. Its been a month and half I haven't received check. Now when i called they confirm , the check is not cashed. I asked them to put a stop payment but before they do that they want me to go to notary spend 15 dollars for a notarize statement stating in future if someone cash lost check i will be responsible.
So i have few question..
1. Is it legal for a credit union to ask for the such notarize statement?
2. Is credit union suppose to reimburse for notary charges for no fault of mine.?
3. If someone knows what law says in this type of situation.
