I've been hearing a lot about them lately, but I don't see an area for them. Is there?

Institutions that are currently offering add-on certificates (at low rates) include Mountain America Credit Union, Pennsylvania State Employees Credit Union and Northwest Federal Credit Union.

One which is still available is the 24-month Investment CD at bank5connect.com, though its current rate is only 1.25% APY. Minimum to open is $500. Unlimited add-ons allowed during the term.
DA does not have a section on these very limited add-on CDS.

I have a couple older Bank5 Connect add-on CDs, paying 2.7%, that expire in Fall 2021. I may end up adding-on more to them, depending what happens with other assets and the economy. IMO this has been a very easy bank to deal with.

One advantage this bank has is that as a Massachusetts bank it participates in the Mass. "DIF" depositors insurance fund, which picks up at the $250K limit where FDIC leaves off. So, dealing with the fussiness that some FIs have regarding POD beneficiaries' data - and the hope that they'll enter it correctly - is not so much of an issue here.

Pen Air still has 1.35% for 15 mo. which might end up a "good" rate depending on what happens July 1.
