Anyone else having trouble logging on to the Treasury Direct website? I haven't been able to get into my account for the last two days.

It's probably clogged up with people trying to snag the final days of the over 9% i bond.

For those who missed today’s deadline, consider instead using 5 year TIPs as a preferred inflation hedge for savings. Currently they are yielding more than 1.50% on top of inflation (assuming one purchases an initial issue and holds to maturity) and the maximum purchase is $10 million.

Yes, Treasury Direct is down right now. Has been up and down all week. You can check here.
https://www.isitdownrightnow.com/treasurydirect.gov.html

Here is the quote from their home page "We are currently experiencing unprecedented requests for new accounts and purchases of I Bonds. Due to these volumes, we cannot guarantee customers will be able to complete a purchase by the October 28th deadline for the current rate. Our agents are working to help customers who need assistance as quickly as possible."

Always write down username, password, account number with Treasury in a secure place. Lose them and you must go through hell to get back your account with Treasury. Keep the same bank account your investment was funded from. Switch checking accounts and your will have to jump through notarization etc. to make this simple change. Never expect ANY help from online requests. You will be told to phone in and wait hours, automatically by email after about a week or more.

I found changing banks quite simple and painless. Print out the form and have a bank person with a medallion stamp process it. I sent the form in registered mail. Got an email 1 week later saying they received it. About 10 days later the bank change was complete. Easy- Peasy.

Gregory, refresh our memory…wasn’t Central America in “the cards?”
