Sallie Mae Bank Wants Me To Email A Copy Of My SS Card

I've never had a bank ask for a copy of my social security card even when I have opened one in person. They want me to scan it in and email it to them. I'm not going to do that and had them cancel my application. Has anyone else had to give a bank or credit union a copy of their Social Security card? Even Treasury.gov never asked me for this.

Yes i did. I felt it very aggravating. I have 60 years of tax returns i clearly in the database. And if you have not saved your original from when you were years old you must ask for a new one from the SS office. I told them this was unnecessary and difficult they said sorry sir . And then said your account is now open. There must be some really really bad fraud happening that the banks are needing this process, Or the government is uping the KYC rules even more. Dont know but as i agree when you seems unnecessary

I just failed to see what possible need there would be for this. They already have my number and all kinds of personal information. It just sent up a red flag that this bank is difficult to deal with and getting money out would be a real ordeal and that they would throw up all kinds of roadblocks and hoops to jump through.
