Does Anyone Have A Perspective On A 10 Year Ladder?

I always thought 5 year ladders were to go to in long term ladders. Now I hear other advisors (schwabs Kathy jones and Connor (I forget his last name), both schwab fixed income experts) promoting 10 year ladders. Is this just a ploy to get listeners to buy secondary market 6-10 year treasuries and cds through Schwab brokerages? What do you think?

I had my last 2 10 CD's mature a couple of summers ago. They were not purchased through brokerage but at a bank and credit union. I remember one was I Go Banking but don't remember the other one now. I Go Banking 10 yr is .10 now. Most everyone has better rates at shorter terms but Ken posted some better 5 yr CD rates now. Just call around and usually at a credit union you will get a better rate. Some times it is better not to speak to a call center unless they have someone close by that can go over posted rates or ask questions of. This is not as common anymore though unless it is a smaller bank or credit union and they sometimes are not a place you want to put a large amount of money in it. I think because the higher rates are because of inflation you will only be able to get a good rate maybe at 5 or 7 yr someplace. I will be looking for a Roth that I have to split in July. I think I will be out of luck though.
