Why is there a big difference in bank & CU's ratings between deposit accounts & Weiss Ratings? Generally seems like DA ratings are are higher then Weiss? Not a criticism just a question.

Marty (Dr. Martin Weiss, Weiss Ratings founder) and Ken each has his own perspective and way of evaluating financial institution health. Both men are very knowledgeable. But of course, as with everything else, opinions regarding such complex matters differ.

You have to take into consideration the evaluations of both Ken and Marty, together with the opinion of Bauer, and then arrive at your own personal decision where the health of your bank or credit union is concerned. They report. You inform yourself and then decide on your path forward.

On a (strictly) personal note:

God knows I'm no Ken and I'm no Marty.  But I have become attuned to pitfalls I perceive in commercial real estate loans and ownership of commercial real estate generally, particularly in the big cities.  This from sources outside the big three health raters.  In too many places, commercial real estate appears to be tanking.

So when I look at the ratings and occasionally review call reports, I today watch to see how much of a financial institution's bundle is devoted to commercial real estate and loans.  I much prefer to see them lending for home mortgages, and other stuff.  I want no involvement, neither directly nor indirectly, with commercial real estate.
