I reside in NYS so I know it varies across the US but the things I need to purchase are all still more expensive since this latest round of inflation began. So, what do you think?

Eggs $1.22 (Aldi), Milk $2.91 (Aldi)...that's about it! EVERYTHING else it seems has gone up (gasoline here in central Florida is $3.75~ gallon too, that IS ridiculous up almost 50%~ since 2018!) a LOT in 2,3+ years. Increases are not a few cents on items but a significant percentage! As everything has gone up but, not just pennies or 1-2% but, a LOT. Prices at the local Goodwill are 75% of "new" at Wal-Mart which is more expensive as well (Goodwill prices doubled in 4~ years). Cars are still over sticker price new. And those sticker prices are up 20%++ as well. Dealership Labor is at $200~ an hour on my last (Toyota dealer) oil change invoice!! Golf carts are up about 40%~ in 5 years!! Going out to eat: a .99 cent fountain soda is now $2.99 at sit down restaurant(s). Menu prices are up a LOT across the board. Here in Brevard County new apartments are being built all over but the rents are astronomical. A small studio is OVER $1000, 2 br are nearly $2000~ a month! IAW the county tax assessment I just received this week has DOUBLED in just 4 years on my 1/4-acre 2018 built home. Also, I'm seeing price increases with smaller packaging too! In the last 2-4 years overall inflation has to be about MINIMUM 40%~ or GREATER across the board. McDonalds locally now pays $14 hr to START part-time. $16 hr for full-time assistant managers to START w/ benefits! Our club is starting unskilled labor type folks to cut grass, edge, etc., at $16.50 hour to START with increases at 90 days. Full-time work with optional Overtime too and we get 20~ year old people that quit at lunchtime every month after 1/2 day. (With benefits) but McD's and our club can't find 'em fast enough. But today (Sunday) at 1PM there was a waiting line outside the nearest steakhouse (No specials on Sunday either) and parking at the Avenues mall was limited due to overcrowding. McD's drive thorough had a line of at least 10 cars too. Oh, anybody renewed ANY insurance such as auto, homeowners, etc.?  It's WAY up as costs to repair/replace anything have skyrocketed! There's STILL far too much money in circulation and the Fed has to more to do!

From the US Mirror this week:
The CEO of Walmart has warned all customers of price increases as certain foods remain "stubbornly" expensive because of inflation. Doug McMillon delivered a mix of good and bad news this week during Walmart's first-quarter earnings call when the CEO said that while "some" general merchandise might cost less than last year, it still exceeds prices from just two years ago by double digits. He said the company is working to lower these costs, so shoppers won't be hurt financially McMillon believes that higher prices will negatively impact customers' ability to budget. He said: "This stubborn inflation in dry grocery and consumables is one of the key factors creating uncertainty for us in the back half of the year because of the cumulative impact on discretionary spending and other categories, specifically general merchandise."

"Biden did ALL that and Liberalism will be the eventual death of America."

JeffinEasternFL it did not have to be this way but the people in this country wanted Biden on top of that I live in California my wife and me still work at my age of 68 years old and my wife at 63 years I been wanting to move to Florida when we retire. But everybody lives here in California plus the grand kids I lived here all my life, but California has become a hell hole. The costs and crime are insane and the homeless we look like a third world country it is a very sad state.

I'm a 2x Californian, I moved my business to TX in 1997 (instant $15K year raise just w/ taxes and mandates relief). Then to WA in 2001 to do business which last decade went from reddish purple state to deep Blue and I left there in 2017 for the beaches and friendly confines of Florida just in time! (its "just awful" here - don't tell anyone to come cuz 800~ move here a DAY! :) Great governor, business climate and of course outdoor activity, weather, entertainment, et all - my perfect timing too! Not to mention, much friendlier people just like TX! I cannot imagine having to walk or drive downtown LA, SF, Oakland, etc., (and the CA laws does not allow me to legally CARRY my gun for self-preservation but, criminals can USE one and get released without bail often!). I still have friends there in CA that are in shock - gasoline alone around $6 a gallon, etc., $3K rent for a modest home, yada! Here in this county of FL I see maybe 2-3 homeless people a WEEK, it just is not allowed to "live on the streets". It's nice of us give 'em a bag lunch, sanity check and a one-way bus ticket out so they may shoot up and lounge in squalor (their choice) where taxpayers support 'em full-time. Look up our Sheriff in BREVARD County FL sometime. He just doesn't take to lawlessness or liberal ideals (thankfully). For those offered a chance to leave I hear Portland, OR seems to be the #1 choice. (I Iived across the river from PDX in WA state last couple decades before moving to FL, I believe it - once eclectic fun city now just a crime ridden sewer of derelicts and added taxes that do NOTHING!)

Home owners and Auto insurance has gotten cheaper, where I live at least, but you have to shop around. Crime ain't no problem either, but check out where it is.

https://www.thirdway.org/report/the-two-decade-red-state-murder-problem
Key Takeaways:
* The murder rate in the 25 states that voted for Donald Trump has exceeded the murder rate in the 25 states that voted for Joe Biden in every year from 2000 to 2020.
*Over this 21-year span, this Red State murder gap has steadily widened from a low of 9% more per capita red state murders in 2003 and 2004 to 44% more per capita red state murders in 2019, before settling back to 43% in 2020.
*Altogether, the per capita Red State murder rate was 23% higher than the Blue State murder rate when all 21 years were combined.
*If Blue State murder rates were as high as Red State murder rates, Biden-voting states would have suffered over 45,000 more murders between 2000 and 2020.
*Even when murders in the largest cities in red states are removed, overall murder rates in Trump-voting states were 12% higher than Biden-voting states across this 21-year period and were higher in 18 of the 21 years observed.

Key Takeaway not mentioned: in most of these red states, the high murder rates are driven by the lethal violence in their blue cities. The red state murder problem is a myth.

Florida homeowners up at least 70 percent or more even if new roof. Auto insurance just went up 20 percent. Gov allowing all utility increases
JeffinEasternFL
  |     |   744 posts since 2020
My homeowners said same as last year @ $1150 annually in Brevard County, auto insurance went up this year a single digit but, again, cars are much harder to fix, more miles are being driven (more crashes/risk) and the electronics, sensors, cameras, et all mean a "bump" isn't $200 but, $2K++ to repair. The utilities are obligated to pass along natural gas price increases - which they did w/o additional profits but, FPL has now announced a decrease again in rates. They are up, in line with the natural gas costs of the past almost 2 1/2~ years.

Our roofer who has been in business 40+ years told us some insurance companies will not provide insurance in some cases if your roof is greater than 10 years old forcing some to pull off 100% solid roofs to pacify the insurance companies. Just crazy.  And insurance costs have skyrocketed near the coast.  My cousins bill nearly doubled YOY forcing some from their homes and others to self insure.

The bread I like has gone went up another 40¢ a loaf last week at Aldi's but my milk from Meijer is still $1.56 a gallon and eggs were 99¢ the last time I purchased them at Aldi's. I Can't Believe It's Not Butter was just $1.99 with a sale and coupons and I stocked up. I picked up a few package of the large Maxwell for $7.99 last week. That is usually more for a smaller can. I also picked up 3- 25.4oz bottles of Pantene smooth and sleek for my granddaughter for $1.79 each on clearance. That is what she uses. They were no longer going to carry the large size. The shampoo I have to use I was able to purchase a bottle 3 times the size for the same price as the small one. I ordered them on line and picked them up before they ran out. It is the only brand I am not allergic to. Bananas are still 46¢ or less a lb and cabbage was 59¢ last week. Parsnips are still $1.49 and have not gone up or down since COVID. I did purchase chicken breasts for $1.99, boneless thighs for 99¢ and then later picked up some with the huge drumsticks for the same price and when I went back in because I forgot milk they were marking them down to 65¢ a pound because the sell by was in 2 days so I bought more and they refunded the difference in the package I had purchased. I see they have chicken quarters for 69¢ this week but won't get them. Most places have that large hunk of fat on them on the under side. I have a big freezer and stock pile so I use that and only purchase things are a good deal because I do not need it. I pick up sugar and flour for the year usually around Thanksgiving and Christmas when they are the cheapest. I did pick up some Bush Baked Beans the large can for 99¢ that didn't expire until May of 2024 at Walmart this summer in the center aisle. I bought 24. I like to make baked beans starting with them or use left over bean soup. They also had the large box of MEGA honey nut cheerios for 99¢ but I don't eat those. If I see a good deal I will pick it up if I need it or use it watching the expiration date. Otherwise I have enough at home. I was able to pick up a 12 jars of Prego Italian sausage and garlic for 99¢ about 6 week ago. I would have bought more but that is the first to sell out. I have 5 grocery stores within a mile of one another. So they will have a lot of unadvertised specials. When I do get out I go up and down the aisles quickly and can pick out the deals. I see Aldi's have marked down the concord grape jelly this week. I like that with peanut butter and will stock up. I use flipp.com to look at ads and also the weekly add and you can also sign up for just the store ads you want sent to you and also for the The Weekly Ad and you can sign up for the weekly preview and get those by Wed to Fri for the following week.

ALLY -- thanks for the Flipp.com tip! ALDI where I shop is a challenge; 2nd week advertising cantaloupes for 99 EACH ... but not in stock. Three tries and none to be had. Stocker said they sell out as soon as a load arrives ... which is random times of the day. (Or do they ever have them? LOL) Ally, do you have the new self check-out at your Aldi? There's 10 where I go and one with an employee; which seems to get the folks with extra full carts or cash only.

Yes. Only 6 though. I love them because my order is usually only 1 or 2 things.

I like https://www.theweeklyad.com also because you can pick out the stores ads you want and they are emailed to you and you can also signup for the next weeks ad and get them on Wed to Friday. Some grocery stores will have some of the following weeks sales marked down on late Sat afternoons. Just scroll down after you get to the site.

6 new self checks at our Aldi's (2) in Brevard Co FL. We shop Aldi first, then the 2 fers at Winn-Dixe and Publix prior to hitting up Wal-Mart to finish, all in a 2~ mile circle. My beau has a bunch a coupon from the internet and those receipt points/coupons from a previous buy to cash in as well. Her Medicare Advantage plan also gives her $25 a month for groceries (food) each month and $100 a quarter to spend at CVS. We use the latter to get the needed OTC items "free" before paying for them elsewhere. (Usually, Wal-Mart.com is our preferred place to grocery shop and get free home delivery)

Anyone that voted Biden and the socialists in deserve this, open boarders, crime, inflation. you name it its all bad. And the world is watching our downfall, dont fool your self about eggs and gas, these people kept the cpi numbers down a little in July and August so the next COLA will be lower. And if you ask they say because we didn't like the way he talked! Shame if you voted these bums in!

Better than having a person who wrote love letter with the leader of North Korea, though Putin did a good job of trying to take over Ukraine and thought that China was so transparent about COVID and the first thing he did was invite the Russians into the White House while kicking out the US reporters but let in the Russian reporters. This is what you want? go for it. Better than having someone who has been indicted 4 times with 91 charges and having people send him A BILLIONAIRE as he claims pay his lawyers and other fees. Biden did not have to put up a 200,000 bail.

NO not better, not at all...a weak military now exists, we are energy slaves and the consumer with all the printed money loses, crime surges, WOKE policies are THE must thought to teach children as the liberals gain on their overall goal of 2 economic classes of economics: "the Ruling Class" and everyone else that MUST vote for liberalism to survive and think for you. Just as the far left wants...

The biggest thing I pay equal or less for before Brandon inflation is meat. I live off meat. I load up on sales and vacuum seal for the freezer. Prices I have recently paid in AZ:

Bone in Rib eye steak: 4.50/lb.
T-bone steak: 5.00/lb.
New York steak: 5.00/lb.
93% ground beef: 3.25/lb.
Snow crab: 8.00/lb.
Fresh shrimp: 6.00/lb.
Slab of pork ribs: 1.30/lb.
Bacon: 4.00/lb.
Large Eggs: 1.00 /dozen.
Milk: 2/gallon.
Produce is cheap again.

Junk food and paper products are not. Still need paper but doing without junk food now (how healthy of me).

Gas is expensive at 4.30/gallon.

Housing with current interest rates are hurting a lot of people who want to buy their first home or to move out of a low interest rate loan on a current mortgage. Fortunately not an issue for me.

If you have time in your day, take time to thank a dem.

The price for a case of bud light is way down from a year ago. Although I don't drink the stuff.

Granted not a quality beer, but it comes out to around 20 cents a bottle after the rebate (includes regular Budweiser). Plus I like to stick it to Budweiser.

The only thing I noticed is Aldi had a few different kinds of cheese slices discounted for a few weeks there. More like weekly specials whereas the other versions are still the regular price.

Eggs but I don't buy eggs. (High cholesterol -old habit)

I haven't noticed much of anything that has gone down, everything I've bought has gone up from gas, eggs, juice, bread, etc, especially at walmart.

To answer the OP's question - recently I bought a Samsung 980 PRO 2TB Internal SSD PCIe Gen 4 x4 NVMe that was twice as fast as the Samsung SSD NVMe I bought 2 years ago and has twice the capacity, for about the same price. A specialized purchase, yes, but it has in fact gone down. ;)

Going up to 20k feet… what is most noticeable (at the time of this post) by this thread…

Where are all the those that like higher CD rates yet complain about inflation? Perhaps they don’t know how to be a good/discrimating consumer and/or like the status quo from a a political point of view.

My take is not join/follow the herd and buy but reduce costs and shelf life will dictate lower prices!
Ally6770

I never follow the herd. I know the time of year things will be cheaper. Yes even when the shampoo and toothpaste I use. I will try to never purchase anything I use that is not on sale and use coupons if available. Even butter and barbecue sauce, appliances which after over 60 years of mostly married life except for the last 10 years. I am on my 3rd set of household appliances. All still worked when we sold our homes and just bought new. This last set was purchased in 2010 when we had this house built. It was in the Parade of Homes and the builder wanted to have a different brand of appliances that was popular at the time and I showed him how the brand I chose were rated so much better. I said this is what I am purchasing and it is your choice if you want it in the Parade or not. The ones with the popular brand that I know of have had most of them replaced already. If you research every thing you purchase, ajd make every penny work for you inflation doesn't matter. You can be prepared for all most every disaster or downturn. Only the things that you have no control over can change your life like health, death, weather, fires accidents and perhaps for a shot time job loss etc. A person can always be financially prepared if they make the right choices.

my auto insurance with aarp/hartford is up about 20% on the renewal I just received....

AARP Hartford is good only in a state where rates are state regulated. Also you should review the auto coverage for business and personal policy (each) as well who else can use the auto and be covered, eg valet at restaurant or while getting service for same. They also record calls w/o your consent
