ACH Limits: Each Direction Or Both Directions?

Say a place (Alliant for example) has a daily ACH limit of 25k.

Is that 25k max for incoming and 25k max for outgoing? Or 25k max for both combined?

In other words, could I both "pull" 25k into Alliant from "Credit Union X" and "push out" of Alliant 25k to "Credit Union Y" on the same day?

(I know I could initiate the ACH from the "Credit Union X"'s end instead, but many other places have such tiny ACH limits that it's not even worth it doing that way).

I'm wondering if, when you see ACH "25k max daily", if that's per direction or for both directions combined?

I am not at all familiar with Alliant, but as a general rule those limits are imposed by the institution initiating the ACH transfers. Even if an institution had such limits, there is usually no such limit imposed if you initiate the transfer, in or out, at the other institution, so long as you are within their internal limits. Again, this should be considered general in nature, but I am unaware of any institution where this concept doesn’t apply.  And if you are dealing with two entities that both have such low limits it might be time to assess other risk factors.  :)

I can only specifically answer regarding Alliant. The last time I contacted Alliant about my accounts there, this was the reply: Both incoming & outgoing stated maximum would be combined. The ACH limits for me are $100,000 total per day incoming if initiated at Alliant, and $25,000 outgoing. So, say, I were to transfer $25,000 out to one of my external accounts, that would lower the total amount I could pull into Alliant that same day down to $75,000.

I have assumed that all of my other banks do the combined in/out regarding their stated maximum, but am unaware if there are banks out there that do offer their stated maximum to apply separately as a total in and a total out.
