Re. #458:

You got me worried and so I called. My AT&T card letter said specifically 'if you prefer to keep your current card, please call...'

The Citi card letter didn't say anything like that. I talked to another CSR in India today and she confirmed by looking at my account notes that I will not be converted and I didn't cancel my card by doing so (I asked several times to make sure). That was followed by a 0% BT offer (alas with an uncapped BT fee:-(

I'm sure the new World MC would be a fine card perk-wise. The reason why I'm adamant about not converting is the no pre-set limit. I had a Chase card converted to a Signature card not too long ago and sure enough my credit file doesn't show the former 20k limit as available credit anymore. If all your CC's get so-called 'upgraded' to no pre-set limit cards, you end up with no available credit at all, which hurts your credit score a lot.

Re Mike, #460. Good to hear your feedback. Woud be nice if Citi actually could give the same info to two different people.

I have both the Citi Platinum Dividend Select card, as you do, and the AT&T Universal Card, as you do. I have not gotten any letter about the AT&T card so far.

They specifically told me the Platinum Dividend Select card was being phased out and will no longer be offered. They specifically said that to merely opt out serves to cancel the card as the Platinum Dividend Select will no longer be offered -- and that was presumably why they were converting now. I am now wondering if the issue is incomplete info - as you may opt out now, and your card will continue as-is, but only until the card is eliminated in a couple months when it otherwise would have been converted.

I will contact them again -- as I, too, would prefer to stay with the Platinum Dividend Select card; they wouldn't let me, although they would let me let it be canceled instead of converted. I will post what I learn after that contact. I hope you are right and I can just stay with what I now have. I think I will make a point of talking to a supervisor.

I note, at their Web site, they still list the Platinum Dividend Select card as being offered. But I also note, they do not even list the World Mastercard as something that exists.
