Heads Up For RCA Accountholders Re AT&T Payments

Many of us who use Reward Checking accounts to earn higher interest rates on deposits routinely verify before the account cycle closes that the required number of transactions have posted.

If you made payments to AT&T on 3/17 in order to meet your transaction requirements, check your accounts.  None of the payments made on that date have posted to any of the three RCAs used, although a) I received AT&T's Email confirmation of the payment and b) the amount of the payment has been credited to my AT&T balance.  Further, none of the three RCAs show that there are pending transactions.   Also, the three accounts involved are at three separate institutions, so it would be a huge coincidence if the three institutions had problems with the same day's transactions.

Payments made on 3/15 and 3/20 have posted, so the issue may be limited in scope.

ATT payment made on 3/14 was pending til final posting 3/18.  Payments made 3/18 and 3/22 are still pending. Thanks for pointing this out - I hadn't noticed that the 3/18 payment is taking unusually long to final post.  Although unlike your situation, it has at least been pending posted.

It's curious that ATT currently can't show any payment history details - indicating "processing error".  But the balance does at least reflect the payments were made.

I don't know if this is related, but I have had rca either not show a pending post though the amount matched what's less in the available balance thereby indicating it's there, or it appears briefly as a pending post, then disappears for a day before final posting.  What's strange in the latter case, is that it's accounted in the available balance while pending, but when it disappears until final posting, it's suddenly not accounted in the available balance anymore until it reappears as a final posting.  Also, I've seen where despite making 2 online purchases from the same online store, on the same day, on the same rca card, and shipping the same day - 1 posted but the other did not appear til days later. The store posted them the same day, but the bank held off even pending posting one of the charges til days later, let alone final posting.

I sometimes wonder about these practices, since the confusion it creates favors the institution, such as possible bank fees in cases where one accidentally overdraws or extra debits made by customers thinking they haven't reached the rca debit requirement.
